Buy once cry once - go with Yakima. I got mine at an REI garage sale for a steal.

Yes, I have decided after looking at all the rest, and they are many, that this is best because of its capability and yet flexibility. Now waiting on the right sale, maybe coronavirus will help me out, then I can go out more and avoid people.

    Question:
Do you have to buy a kit also for the Tacoma on the Yakima overhaul install without a tonneau.

I am not sure. On the Yakima web site they have videos to show the install.

Yes, the kit allows you to mount it to the bed-rail. The mounting that comes with the rack clamps to generic bed-sides that do not have a bed-rail system

You have to buy the Bed Track Kit 1 in order to work with the Tacoma bed rails. This prevents you from using a standard tonneau cover. There is a Tonneau kit made by Yakima that is compatible with the Retrax and a few others but those tonneau covers are not cheap ($1,500+) - I have been planning on modifying a roll up cover but other projects have gotten in the way.

They are even far more pricey and I don't like that there is some drilling required. Definitely strong though.

Did you sell your bed side bike carrier that went under the soft topper?

Yes I did as it wouldn't work with the new rack

IMG_1831.jpg IMG_1831.jpg IMG_1832.jpg Just installed Yakima Overhaul HD on my 2014. Load stops, anchor eye bolts, and side bars between each support are still to come in the mail.

Quite expensive, but after doing some heavy research, I am quite pleased with them.
