I’m in the market for bed rack/load bars for my Wife’s long bed Tacoma that doesn’t break the bank but can also hold the weight of our RTT. The two I have been looking into are Front Runner Outfitters and Yakima. I also don’t want to have to drill anything into the truck so using the stock track rails are a must. Anyone have any experience with either of these racks/ load bars or can anyone recommend a rack?

Lots of companies make simple bed bars, C4 Fab, Caliraised, etc. I had Relentless bed bars but the bar diameter was wider than expected and I barely got my RTT brackets to fit. The height adjustability of the Yakima system would be important to me if I was shopping right now. Good luck.

I love my Yakima bars. There are 2 models, the Overhaul HD and Outpost HD. Biggest difference is the Overhaul are height adjustable. I have the Outpost HD, and it puts my RTT just above the height of the cab. Just yesterday I added the cross bars along the sides with plans to mount a shovel/water/rotopax something like that.

I currently have the KBVoodoo/Max Modular 10" rack with bed cover brackets. Mounts right to the bed rails and I can retain use of my bed cover. Axe and shovel mounted with quick fists on one side and Maxtrax mounted on the other.

I used to have the RCI mid height bed rack. Also mounts right to the bed rails but you can't use the bed cover with it.

I went with the Front Runner Load Bars and Load Bar Support Brackets. I don't think the support brackets are on the website so I would call and ask about them. I don't do any hard 4x4'ing since I'm only 2wd, but its been solid as a rock for Cali forest roads and desert trips so far. I have about a dozen trips with this set up and no issues. My tent weighs about 145lbs with sleeping stuff inside. The FR rack also keeps it low profile which I like. Probably the cheapest route as well. Some people do 3 load bars to ad strength... still probably cheaper than a full overlanding type rack. https://youtu.be/BHPvdE2NozA

I'm looking to purchase one also.

I need it to work with a cover, so far KB Voodoo is the only one I've seen that will work with a cover.

I got lucky and found a UpTOP rack in stock over at runnin 4 Tacos, they now have two left! After some time of YouTube research I decided to pull the plug and order one up.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
The voodoo bed racks are pure garbage.

I'd suggest just doing it right the first time around getting something built well like a BAMF rack. Much better quality

I have the Yakima Overhaul HD (adjustable) height and love it. I found it comparable in price to a lot of the custom overland racks and still quite modular with the channel mounts. If you can make friends with a Yakima employee they can give out friends and family discounts that drop the price quite a bit.

It's the Prinsu ones. I used to have them mounted to the roof rack. When I moved them I didn't want to buy another mount so I drilled some holes in the bed rack and made them work.

Dissent Off Road bed rack with what I went with as I wanted something that would fit over the Softopper.

Has anyone ever seen a rack that allows you to attach a soft top over the rack itself?
