Those t-bolts and large spin nuts are the factory hardware for my bed divider, I still use the bed divider so that's why I used new hardware and wing nuts good luck.

I did the traditional metal 50 cal ammo can do on my 09. When. Traded it in for a 12, I decided to go a different route. I was tired of having to reprint my cans every few months and they were starting to leak and rust. So I bought two MTM plastic 50 cal ammo cans from Amazon, with my Amex points. Here are the results

I really like this. I kind of like the 'look' of using ammo cans but this is probably a better idea long-term.

Yeah I felt the same way. It just doesn't have that same look as real ammo cans. However, after 3 years of using real ammo cans and dealing with the rust and repainting issues, not to mention how heavy they are, I finally decided to do this. Sure, it doesn't look as cool, but it is way more functional and better in the long run. Plus, I'm not doing this mod for looks as much as I am for function.

Yeah, I get that. I just went this route since they are lighter, have lock spots built in and seem like they will last better over the years. But, I REALLY do miss the look of a real ammo can mounted there.

What brand tonneau cover is this? Any special considerations for mounting the can underneath this (or any tonneau cover)? I would think that the cans would extend above the rail systems, making a tonneau impossible to install/use.

Bumpers, Mirrors, and Grill Surround painted to match truck. Tail lights tinted to match truck. AFE cold air intake. De-badged. 18 inch wheels. Calipers and drums painted black. trifold tonneau cover. Magnaflow exhaust dumped over the rear axle.
Same question as above. That seems to be the only mounting style that would work with a cover. I have a trifold and access to ammo cans but i wouldn't be interested unless i could hide them under my cover. I feel like that would solve some of the weatherability and rust/corrosion issues. Do you have any pictures of how you mounted those?

Also, i feel like that plastic ammo box would be tempting for thieves.

So I'm either going to get a plastic ammo can like posted earlier or a metal one. I want a metal one, but I don't want it to be rusty and have to replace it down the road. How durable are the plastic ones?

EDIT: Nvm, just ordered a plastic one. Should be as good. Won't have to worry about rust.

How are you mounting these cans? Are they bolted through the bottom of the bed? This would solve a lot of my problems!

Was it a pretty easy process or did you have any issues come up?

Finally got around to doing this mod and it was pretty simple. The hardest part was sitting waiting on the paint to dry so I could install them!

I got the two ammo cans for $20 at my local gun store. I used 3/8 x 1" Hex bolts, Nuts, Rubber Washers, and a 1" flat washer to hold it to the rail system. I also used wing nuts to secure it in case I ever need to take them out for some reason. After I drilled all the holes where I wanted them, I spayed them with a couple layers of Rustoleum spray on bed liner to help from getting dinged up.

Here's a look at the inside and wing nuts:
It leaves plenty of space for my tow strap and ratchet straps

And here's how they sit now:

So far there's been no leaking through the drilled holes thanks to the rubber washers (I put one on each side of every bolt). I love having the extra weather-proof and lockable storage in the bed!
