I found lots of corrosion related threads but non relating to this..
Has anyone experienced the powder coat corroding like this?
    My local dealer has never seen it, they sent pics to Toyota Corp and the response was this;
As per a tiny scuff on the seal around the rear window we have determined it is the owners fault and we will not honor warranty.....:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::fenforcer:

What my dealer didn't take a photo of was the drivers side that is also starting to corrode,
    no scuff there..

Well is it possible that you somehow scraped through the protective coating, even just slightly?

    no, never touched the rail..
Scuffs on the edge that faces the bed with no problems.

I swear they are trying to make excuses to avoid replacing it because, and get this, to replace that rail the entire bed has to be replaced. Obviously not the fenders tho.

Hmm, well that sucks. Sounds like just one of those freak, unfortunate things. Hopefully since it's just the metal bar, it won't be too crazy to replace.

Had LOTS of "freak unfortunates" with this fucking truck.. @smitty99 and I have lots to relate to..
The thing is easy to remove and powder coat but according to Toyota the whole liner has to be removed and replaced. What idiot is in charge over there..

Might have just pin a terrible pc job to begin with, moisture got in small areas that were exposed and it just manifested from there.

Exactly, IF it was my fault, or in one particular spot NOT the whole rail i'd take blame. Wish a billion $$ company could fess up and do the same..
I'll keep fighting it like everything else..

Funny thing is, I step on the rail right in the middle all the time loading and unloading the Kayaks, no corrosion there......

I haven't even looked at mine lately. I'm sure I have a few scuffs around the window so I'll be SOL as well.

My guess is that they're claiming you've been driving around with shit on top of that rail, bumping and rubbing against it. So because of this they don't want to warranty because allegedly your mistreatment caused the erosion/corrosion.

What I don't get is why they look for any little nit-noid detail just to get out of asking Big Toyota for authorization to complete the warranty work. Sometimes these dealers act like it's money out of their own pocket. Obviously this warranty work doesn't pay well for the service dept...because if it did they'd be fixing shit right and left.

My dealer agrees with me and is not happy with corps. response, are they lying? maybe..
Well i took a photo of the opposite side where there is additional corrosion.. and had a hissy fit about it.

Can they prove I had something up there? no, have i? no!

In my industry warranty work from the boat side only pays a flat rate which is a fraction of our shop labor rate. There are ways for us to get a little bit more by claiming time to hook computer to motor to pull hours, cleaning an oil sump if I have a powerhead removed, etc. Little things that will accumulate time, you just have to know how to file the warranty.
Now on the ATV side, because I am a Gold level certified tech, they pay us shop rate plus 10 percent, so I like warranty work for them.
Now, sometimes its not the dealer end that is holding things up. We have to submit a pre authorization and sometimes they ask for pics, and the manufacturer will make the call if they will cover or not, which seems to be the case here. In some instances if a customer is polite to us and the manufacturer will not cover, we will help the cust. out on labor or not charge labor at all depending on how long the job takes.

You can always bypass the dealer and call corporate and open a case.

Seems funny that the purpose of any truck is to be used for dirty work, but it seems Toyota wants you to treat it like Bentley.

Is that corrosion or is that just paint coming off?

If your dealer is not happy either and you are a good customer then the dealer can do something about it. It's called good will and the dealer can make it right for you.

I was told so very arrogently by this loser at corp with my complaint about the hesitation from a stop and how bad it is that "its a truck" and "its normal" and IF it's "normal" why is it not the exact same everytime. idiots :annoyed:

I said I can go to any dealership and take a truck off the lot and it won't do this.

If you're beating on the truck and the paint is chipping up or scuffing... I don't expect Toyota to fix it. I'm pretty reasonable when it comes to this stuff I think.

This issue is in the past for me now but as an example The Squeaking leaf springs: I drive a brand new 4x4 TRD Off Road down a gravel road and the thing starts squeaking like a bed at the bunny ranch. I expect them to come up with a better design than that. I've had plenty of other makes/models of leaf spring-equipped trucks that wouldn't squeak from a ride down a dirt road.

It's powder coat coming off, sorry for the word corrosion, that will start when i leave it to corrode i guess.. lol

Ya, they are great and i'm the all mighty complainer there.. lol but they are compliant and helpful. if it means removing the thing and powder coating sure, but i'm difficult and royaly pisssed off at corp. right now.
