Sorry. Guess I'm glad with my 2nd Gen and recalls are completed.

Thats the great thing about owning a older car, the recalls are generally taken care of already. Though it sucks you guys got the gas pedal recall... I had that done on my rav4 and it looked like shit after.

Just because the owner isn't paying doesn't mean it's free. Toyota is paying the dealer 1.5 hours to do the job. If it takes the dealer 3 hours they're screwing the tech and themselves out of 1.5 hours of labor they could have been paid for and used elsewhere.

    It doesn't make sense.

The tech is choosing to lift the bed, not the dealer. If the tech thinks its faster to lift the bed then so be it.

The repair procedure from toyota says to pull the fuel tank, anything outside of what the repair procedure says is up to the tech if they think they can save time with the same results.

Also, the time for a bed r&r at 4 hours includes wire harness removal. When they do this by lifting the bed all they do is lift it a few inches, no need to pull the tail lights, no need to pull the tailgate, no need to disconnect any harness. Its a few bolts, a filler neck and you prop up the bed with a 2x4.

EDIT: also I never said it was free. But if the dealer wants to take more time than it pays to do something there is no reason the customer should go to another dealer to save the first dealer from costing themselves extra money. OP has no money in the game, the people making the choice of how long its going to take them are the ones paying for how long its going to take.

Just finished thus recall this morning. Checked in at 7:10am and left 9;45 am. I am in Southern California. I had 1/4 tank in and out and they didn't tell me that they have to remove the bed so I left all my stuff in the bed.

I would rather they lift the bed than drop the tank. Here is my FJ after the fuel pump recall last month. The tech forgot to unplug the FP connector, tore the wires and then proceeded to use crimp connectors to repair it.

The dealership offered to repair it correctly when I contacted them.

Don't think they lifted my bed, as it only took an hour and a half to do the recall pump and 10k service. I would think they would all use the same procedure but i guess not.

I do not think so. I believe the picture on the first page is of a short bed.

Yeah. I brought it in with the rear seats removed to make his job easier, so he should have known I was going to look at his work when I reinstalled them. I was able to pull the pigtail out of the access hatch and solder, and shrink wrap the joints.
