Nor have I yet to see a pallet fit in a Taco, or a picture.

The dummy frontend loader operator at a site I worked at dumped a load of snow into his buddy’s Ford pickup to take home to his kids, he had to flatbed his truck off the mountain with the bed sides pushed out.

I have not managed to melt mine with an errant torch, camp stove, or soldering iron. It is more akin to fibreglass than plastic. It’s not a melty material, but it will burn if you try.

About 10% of the time I use the tacoma, it is picking up a pallet from the trucking depot.

A piece of 1/2 or 3/4 plywood is perfect for me in the bed to load pallets in with the forklift. Bed itself is too slick and easy to gouge with an errant nail. Bed mat has too much traction and is too soft, nails catch.

A sheet of plywood is just goldilocks....

I just use a 4x8 sheet, notched for the wheel wells and cut to length. (It is the same sheet I have used for like 6 years, had in the first gen, so the wheel cutouts aren't perfect, but who cares.)

OP, why not make drop in bed floor out of diamond plate steel (or aluminum to save weight)? then you could just replacde that when it needs replacing. Just cut it to match the beed floor, drill holes where all the current bolts and tie downs go, drop it in and bolt it down. Done.

Check Craigslist, I see beds offered up for about $1,000 here in Oregon.
