So my OEM bed step broke around April. Same day, someone drilled a hole into my gas tank.... It snapped at the bracket that mounts to the frame. The bottom half was fine.

I got a faux step from Amazon on Prime day. I just used the upper bracket, and everything else OEM.

Compared to OEM, it is painted satin? black instead of powdercoating, spring is different, and washers are a little big.

Honestly love my bed step. Especially with a lift, saves my knees. When it broke, it just reminded me of how often I used and needed it.

FML. Failed after six years as I stepped on it.

Anyone succeed in getting just the mounting bracket from Toyota? @Rainoffire is the bracket from the Amazon knockoff working? Do you recall the specific link to the one you bought?

Yes, I used the part from the cheapo bedstep from Amazon. The upper part connects to both the mounting points and the OEM hinge/step without issue.

Jbciv link the exact part that I bought.

I paid money for one. That’s a lot better than using a bucket

Dang !!! I hate to hear these things are breaking. I bought an OEM one and it was not cheap. I hope it lasts.

I've had mine since sometime in late 2016 or so, and just broke recently. Reportedly the $80 Amazon knockoff of PT392-35100 has a bracket that can serve as a replacement, though I wish I could just get the bracket alone.

They're made of cast not forged. Any weakness on the casting will weaken over time and possibly break. Any hard knock can also cause a break. To me they're still a reasonably priced convenience. If mine breaks I'll just buy a new replacement and install the complete piece.

Yeah I love mine and use it all the time. I too will replace with a brand new one when/if mine breaks.

I use mine all the time also. Without it makes it a lot hard to get up into the bed. If something would happen to mine, I would replace it.

Mine's been on since 2016. If it breaks, I'll bevel the edges and weld it back together.

Welding cast crap is a pain and it will break along the weld.

Mine came with my premium package. Ive only stepped into the bed 2x. I like having it because I am 5'6". If the oem one broke id buy a Amazon knockoff in a second.

I bought mine off the TW member who had it as a part of the Trail package, IIRC. I love it.

The dealer threw it in with my other accessories for free. I use it. It's nice.

Yeah, I use mine all the time too. Just replaced the broken bracket with a cheap set from Amazon for $80, and now I have a spare step and hinge.

I too wished I could just buy the upper bracket.

    None so far
The bed step for the 4th gen was moved from the left to the right side. And it was slightly redesigned and beefed up, still made by AMP in the US the new part number is PT392-35920. A cheaper aftermarket model isn't available (yet), and the OEM list is almost $400, but can be found for slightly under $300. Since the 4th gen Tacoma is about 2" taller than my 2nd gen, that makes it almost impossible to access the bed with the tailgate open. The step really helps us age-challenged guys.
