I’m 6ft tall but still like a step to help me get up into the bed. I like utility more than style but to each their own.

I ordered and installed a step from Amazon. Bolted right onto the frame with the factory bolts that were on the frame. It works great and tucks right back under the car when you’re done. It’s strong too. I’m a big boy.

I ordered one from Toyota, it was $215, I talked to the salesman that sold me my truck and I shamed him into a discount (was $250), lol. I’m a bit gun shy of after market parts, often times it ends up being not what I wanted or expected. To each, his own.

I ended up finding an amp step new in the box from a forum member at a nice discount. From what I've read in online reviews the amp version is beefier. I was a bit of pain to install trying to get a ratchet into tiny spaces. I ended up using a ratchet wrench for the 2 main bolts and just snugged them as tight as I could.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I use mine "every time" I need to step into the bed.

My wife prefers the "set your butt down on the tail gate and then swing your legs up" approach.

We are both "getting on in years" ;-)

One thing, to extend the step, Stand at the rear wheel, facing towards the back of the truck, and then push the step back with your left foot.

Trying to pull the step out with your toe while facing the rear of the truck is a fool's mission. ;-)

I do it the same way.
And step can be adjusted, as to how far it sticks out past the bumper. Mine is in the outmost position.

Was looking into these when this thread came up. I’m 56 and a bit worn out. This will greatly help my knee.

    Appreciate ya….

The thread is actually kind of enlightening. It seems it’s rather common on more trucks to have built-in steps. A few models have the little toe kick steps built into the bumpers a couple models have the crazy tailgate that has fold down sections and ladders and handles and what not

I guess this is all getting marketed to us, older and more broken Folks as compared to the younger less broken crowd?

Partially yes, but compare the size of the current Taco, to the Gen1, or current F-150 to the 1980's F-150. Trucks are not only wider, they are taller.

It's an old person step. At 6' 1" I used to just lift my foot up on the tailgate and hoist myself in.

Not anymore now that I am old. The step is great. Heavy duty and stows or deploy by just foot action.

I had one, it was cool to have. People always asked me what it was. Someone here was looking for one because he got into a parachute accident and broke both legs and was looking to buy one. I gave it to him free and installed it for him. As a 6 ft tall person I can use the tire as bed step.
