I have a 2017 Tacoma SR5 and it has two storage compartments in the bed (one on each side near the tailgate). Is there a way to add a locking mechanism to this? It would be sweet if I could use my current ignition key - kinda like the glove compartment lock. I realize that these things are plastic and can probably be ripped off by a determined thief. I'm just trying to prevent the opportunity theft where I can.

There are locks you can get. As far as getting them keyed to your truck, idk.

Update: I found the mobtown offroad option, which is basically a metal door with two hinge locks. They're out of stock though. Anyone else make a metal replacement door with a lock?

I installed cheap cam locks from Lowes. It was easy to do and they have worked great for years now. There's no easy way to get them keyed to your ignition key without significant expense, IMHO.

The key numbers are noted on the packaging so you can find matching keys.

Thanks. This might be the easiest route. Your link did not work though.

I’ve never considered putting anything valuable in those cubbies because they are very exposed to the elements. All sorts of moisture and gunk gets in them especially in cold wet climates. Everything I ever put in there turned into a bucket of rust.

Yes, but those are way too long. I think it was these 5/8in ones:
    https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gatehouse-5-8-in-Stainless-Steel-Die-Cast-Drawer-and-Cabinet-Lock/3407890

Maybe the 7/8in? It is pretty shallow regardless.

It is easy to seal them up. I have cheap steel stuff in them and never any issues.

I’ve heard that. I’ve just found it more convenient to just store stuff in the cab. I use the cubby for empty beer/pop cans.

    Sounds like a good solution.

I added a simple lock from The Home Depot. I know it isn't completely thief-proof (is anything?) but it is a small deterrent none-the-less.
