Heads up that harbor-freight has a set of 3 of those step drill bits on sale for 8.99 (down from 19.99) right now. Got a coupon in the mail today and evidently it's needed for the deal.

Yes and like floridaoccifer said, they are vented inside so it didn't do anything other than make it so I have to press on the cover to close them.

You have to make the hole a little bigger for the lock.

I finally did this awhile back. Had locks all over the floor at Home Depot trying to find 4 with same key. Closest I got was 2 sets of 3 the same so just went with 2 sets of 2 the same. They are empty but locked so at least the doors won't disappear, lol..........

Yeah,I weatherproofed mine to a point. I used 1/8 thick x 1/4 wide weather stripping all around the door edge, then inside I took gorilla tape and put down a strip over the lower holes and the lower slots. Now the slots are needed for the door to sit down in so I kinda forced a pocket down in the slots just deep enough so the door tabs sit down in them without tearing thru the tape. I didnt do the top slat yet where the lock tab goes up but so far so good and it also seals any rattles in the door if you have them. I used gorilla tape but it justs duck tape. You could put down something inside if you want to hide the tape.
Now havent really ran it yet in a good downpour running down the highway,so dont know if any water is coming down from the top slot. If it does,I'll tape the top the same way.All I keep in there are my tiedowns, rags and such but nice to have a dry rag when you need it.

Great mod, I know it's not a bank vault but at least it makes people think twice before steeling your cargo doors, which seems to common in the local area here!

Ok,I did weatherproof or tryed but still leaking so might just let it go. I think I would have to take out the boxes and seal them against the bed, water seeping in there because the holes I taped are still good and tight.
Dont know if I'll bother,i just keep my straps and tiedowns in them.
Simple enough to do but will be taking the boxes out occasionally for wire work.

Ha,Sealed tight,1/4 inch weatherstrip around door, tape inside over slots and holes -just kind of make a pocket deep enough in the slots with the tape so the door slots fit down in them, then take out box and tape over from the outside the same holes and slots. Yeah they might leak in a year or two but now I can keep rags and such dry. Use good duct tape or gorilla tape and make sure the box is clean and dry first.
    maybe humidity but not rain.
Also I installed locks too,I ground some of the latch down so they only stick in the slots about 1/4 inch, they're just holding a plastic door shut and mine stuck up about 1/2 inch. Made it easier to make the little pocket in the slot with the tape.
simple and stupid but works great.

One of my first mods and very easy. The step bit will come in handy later too I'm sure. Thanks a lot OP.
