Has anyone else noticed that the bed rail trim that caps the fenders in not consistent on gen 3 Tacomas? Just bough a 2023 and sold the factory hard tonneau cover because I have ordered a Leer cap. The person that bought it did not need the hardware or notched bed cap trim but gave me the trim from an 2018 with no cover notches. Just put it on and it's over 3/8" short of the fender edge. The original notched trim stops just shy of the fender. I looked at several new Tacomas with the 6ft bed and short beds and the trim length varies a lot.
The odd thing is the part numbers are the same with and without the cover notches.Trim wTC.jpg Rail Trim NoTC_5014.jpg

Thats odd, in the inner corner on mine it matches exactly with that top bar across the back. Maybe something to do with it coming with a tonneau cover. That looks like it should be moved 1/8 forward.

The truck was refreshed in 2020. It's possible the discrepancy could have to do with your truck being a 2023 and you getting trim pieces from a 2018.

Here's a new 2023 with the TCover. It's not as short as the trim I installed but but much shorter than my original trim with the notches. The proper length trims measures 78" in the bed side of it. The fenders are all the same part number from 2016 on according to the dealer so there is no reason for having different length trim caps. Maybe multiple suppliers?

Hopefully when they mount the Leer cap they will us some putty or something to prevent a leak. Maybe it won't matter, I'm not sure how far back on the trim the bulb seal will sit.

I need to sell the pins and other hardware for the Tonneau Cover and maybe the notched trim to make back some money lost selling the OEM cover.

22 here and mine is almost flush. Get the right year trim. There was a change I think in the trim in 20 or 21.

    Thanks for the input.

Did they lengthen the fenders? Smithtown Toyota parts told me that all rear fenders are the same part number for gen3. I'm finding different length trim on different new trucks on the lot. I can't spend $350 (with a discount and shipping) to order new ones. Already spent money on a bed step, mudflaps (which were standard equipment on my 2009), a bump step (because of the plastic rear bumper), a left hand grip and a front camera. Luckily there are a lot of accessories available for these trucks as Toyota does not even have mudflaps for the SR without over fender trim.'ll just have to make sure the cap installer adds something to make up the gap. Once it's installed, I'm not likely to have to remove it often.
