You might be right (sort of) but you you sound like an unsympathetic ass saying so.

I’m unsure adding weight is going to help hydroplaning much. You said you have Cooper Discoverer tires. Some types of tires are more prone to hydroplaning than others. I used to run BFG All Terrains a d they would hydroplane frequently because the water was getting trapped in the tread blocks. There are no grooves on the circumference for water to escape. I’m not sure which Discovere tires you have, but that might be something to consider.

You seem to be forgetting the fact that it's easier to hydroplane when there is no weight over the tires, aka a pickup truck. I'm not saying the tires aren't the issue but it certainly does not help that there isnt much weight over the drive.wheels. so instead of dropping over $600 on new tires which the tires I have now only have a few thousand miles on, I would just want some extra.weight in the bed

No I haven’t forgotten it. I’ve been driving pickup trucks for 25 years at least and have some idea how weight affects traction.

It’s just something to consider. I hope you’ll find a solution that works for you.

I keep about (3) 60 lb. Quikrete Tube Sand bags in my truck for winter weight. I have had them in for two seasons so far and no issue. I would take a picture of my setup, but they are out of the truck now that warmer weather is approaching. Here is a rough idea of how I have them setup:

The sand bags and tool box are loaded towards the cab/front end of the bed leaving the back/end towards the tailgate free for loading additional cargo. Also, the Rigid toolbox does fit below the factory tonneau cover. It probably adds another 50 lbs of weight.
