How would we fit our 40’s otherwise?

C'mon man, you're not new here and have BOUND to have seen some of the thousand or so threads that start with: [Tire size] will it rub?!

Also you need a jack stand as the multiple wood blocks on-the-jack setup looks sketch.

Simple. Anyone who actually uses a Tacoma as a truck knows a few cut boards in the slots and 48" wide now happens.

Wide tires will get into the shock mount, shock or maybe even spring before hitting the bed. Contrary to belief, I'll bet Toyota for reliability/safety/warranty is not designing it's trucks in order for the .365% who run 3,4,5 x over sized tire's. I seriously, doubt the engineers are concerned with the bed wells contacting oversized tires heck, just look at the # of threads on cutting front wheel well plastics. My 1989 Silverado had the molded pockets for cross ways 2x6's in order to stack cargo and you could already lay 4x8' on bed floor. The Tacoma is very close in height, length, weight to full sized 1/2 ton trucks of that time period. Guess, I come from a time when most thought of functionality when purchasing a truck...
