That is a pretty sweet concept, only problem I see is that it is pulling on the bed, not the frame of the truck. The bed is only held on by 6 bolts, trying to pull your truck backwards if it is really stuck could easily overload the shear capacity of those bolts. Although that looks like a pretty lightweight winch, perhaps it's only rated for 4 or 5 kips, in which case I'm not sure how useful it would be for recovery.

Id want it attached to frame. Not sure what a 4000lb winch would do just bolted to pan.

I don't think its for winching the truck out, so much as winching things into the bed. Cool idea though, wouldn't be hard to build.

Yea. Im sure that wouldnt be an issue with pulling a 4 wheeler or snomobile in.

Cept he might want to switch to synth and no hook.

Or logs, motors, things like that. It'd be a pretty trick setup with some ramps and a sled that you could pull into the bed.

Im diggin the gas can holders built in actually. If they had a way to lock them it would be cool. But they look like they would be get pretty noisy sitting the way they are.

Definitely not for pulling the truck, more like for pulling things onto the bed like a dead atv. Really like the jerry can holder idea.

Me too, and I would think maybe some foam would work.

I agree on locking them, but I don't see them making any noise, not with those big-ass ratchet straps.IMG_5228.jpg

The one mounted in the picture is a 1st gen dc. 60x60 bed minus the area the winch takes up + his tailgate lowered.
So...he probably back at 60x60. Might be tight for a 4 wheeler.

    ...Looks cool

'cept maybe those extended bat wing tubes.
kinda look like tree magnets - anchors to me.

Bad news if those wing tubes hang up on a tree or something.
Would likely tear the bed's sheetmetal on the first contact or hit.

I'd honestly be afraid to put much weight stress on the bed / rails
especially when considering that this winch mount is not
supported by nor tied into the rig's frame - chassis.

The 1st gen Tacoma bed is made of cheap chinese pot metal...
and cracks rather easily when stressed too much due to
too much weight, leverage and old man time.

My radiator support/surround and front clip body support cracked
just from the stress of driving it on and off road.

A weld fix is not easy nor great when mending this pot metal crap
    that's called steel.
But it can be done acceptably, tho' hopefully it doesn't re-occur.
'cause the next weld repair would likely be much more difficult.

Can't imagine the bed's sheet metal will handle too much leverage weight /or stress.

And so good luck to those whom push their luck.
