All feel different, I hate wasp stings, and yellow jackets suck also

I swell more with a honey bee. Not allergic that I know of, also itches more. wasp and yellow jackets love to sting me...to which I destroy their nests ;) Last year I got stung the most in a long time.

Read through the HOA bylaws. Most of them contain a clause that says keeping “non-domesticated" or "farm animals” on your property is prohibited. They can use that clause to come after you for bees. My last house was on a half acre in a development with an HOA. I kept honey bees, chickens, ducks and turkeys. I just got to know the HOA leadership, explained what I was doing and why, and invited them over to see that my property was clean and well maintained. They never bothered me, even when the ducks would escape and browse the local garage sale:rofl:

Ha... there's always that ONE in the community that has a mini-farm. I live in the country myself and have for most of my life, but have many friends that I visit in structured housing communities and they always point out that one house. I dig it though, keeping the natural space natural.

I’m not gonna lie, I did pretty good in NC. Had 12 hives on 5 properties. Summer derth sucked. I only ran deeps with wired wax foundation. There you made your money in late summer early fall. Here In Northern California they pack it in in the spring. Only have two hives now. Retirements right around the corner though and I plan to have no less than 4 acres to do my thing on.

Hopefully, though its just our spring build-up. The real flow doesnt start till June/July. Last year was brutal. It wasnt till August/September when our honey flow started.

This crazy scientist came up with this own pain index by stinging himself. Super subjective but i had over 30-40 honey bee stings to my head and it wasnt as bad as a single paper wasp sting to the groin.....

I was understating it. It’s probably prohibited. I’d have to reread the bylaws. I’m only on half an acre here anyway. Not enough space and it would definitely displease the neighbors (who I like).

I’m lucky, mine doesn’t act like a bunch of dictators, and it does its job, which is to keep the place looking nice.

Installed 3 packages of bees this past Saturday! All went smooth and as planned... it helped that the skies were overcast and cool so all of the bees were calm. I'll check on the queens this evening and if the colonies haven't removed the sugar; I'll take off the other cork to let her and her court out of the benton cages.

Feeding them simple syrup for now, until they get their bearings and find good nectar sources.

Very cool feed feed feed. Walmart has the cheapest sugar I can find in my town.

Luckily, one of the members of our county beekeeping club found a deal with local grocers that sell their damaged bags of sugar for .28 per pound. It's been 3 days and I've already gone through 40/100 pounds.

2 out of the 3 benton cages pulled since the workers were eager to get their queens started on brood! Ate their way through the sugar to give her an escape door.
