Sure, while I've got their hive apart I talk to them. And if one buzzes past me in the yard.

I’m officially out of the game (again). Got another PCS coming up. Sold the bees and half my hives. Not before I pulled off the Spring flow though

    7D1FF3DA-5C3B-490E-B09F-75AC5F2036E5.jpg

Add this to what I got last fall and I have enough to bathe in. Just might do that too

Next assignment looks like Hawaii (not official yet) and am looking forward to learning how to keep bees in a third climate.

I'd be trying my hand at mead, if I had that sort of stash.

Not a fan of mead or any fermented drink made from honey. Maybe I just haven’t had one made right? IMO they just finish weird on the palate. I did sell 2 gallons from the fall flow to my Battalion Commander who makes Mead. Still waiting for the sample he promised me.

If you do come to Hawaii, you are not allowed to bring any used equipment. Fines can be up to $250k I believe.

Thanks for letting me know. I was assuming that, that’s why I was selling off my stuff. I guess I’ll off the rest of it as well.

Edit: Yeah, I just looked it up. It’s a $200,000 fine!

FYI we dont have many places that sell new equipment (craigslist for local used). A lot of beekeepers that I know either do online purchases or if possible bring back some during a trip to the continent.

After mulling it over I’m going to buy a few unpainted unassembled hives/frames to pack up in my HHG. Will put them together when I get there.

    Yay Bees!

My wife knew I was going to build a mason bee hive and bought this one at Costco cheaper than I could build it.

I didn't really have much hope that I would get any nesting in there without buying cocoons but it looked nice on the post.

Yesterday my wife said she saw some "flies" crawling in the tubes. I walked over and took a look.

Sure enough there are about 7 or 8 tubes filled up.

Girls finally building up and packing on the honey. About 30 lbs per hive so far.
