    Hell yeah! For your job, SOST is definitely the way to go. Even deploying with an MFST would be better than hospital work, although you should stay busy at SAMC.

    In the last couple of years, SOST has been utilized in a way that is drastically different than their mission profile allows. I’ve heard of SOSTs in AFG seeing zero patients on a rotation, while the guys that were with us were seeing 600+ trauma casualties on a four month rotation. That’s mainly because they became much less expeditionary (setting up in hard stand structures, relying on other units for Class VIII resupply, etc). But still, with SOST, you’ll get the cool guy gear and training and be much more exclusive in the field. Good luck over the next few years.
