    Well, we didn’t “get to”... what happens in the truck, stays in the truck... I only wore my helmet when the little hairs on the back of my neck stood up... lol! And the T-shirt was what was under my flight suit.. it was all fire retardant, but I rode with the top half of my suit tied around my waist, so I didn’t have to take my armored vest off when I had to pee.

    Yeah, I’m hindsight, it was stupid of me... but I was young, and dumb.. next trip, our convoy was blown up, so I definitely wore my helmet at all times after that

    lol yeah. That’s how we learn. My unit did all the counter IED and response missions so always seen the after effects. If it wasn’t one of our patrols first.

    Should see how it started, before we really knew what they were or had equipment to deal with it.

    The tactic was literally “take the hit first.” Do about 40, let them all detonate on your patrol and call the route clear. Back then, first ones on the road took the hit. No thought process as to which convoy was a softer target.
