Have owned the `03 double cab for about a month. Still getting acquainted with its inherit nuances. Aside from the the random blinking red light on dash (presumed security alarm) and the rear door locks triggering intermittently (seemingly in concert with the red dash light), I hear a faint beep-beep-beep-beep tone when I turn off the ignition. Taking the rig to a shop next week to disable the blinking light and the ghostly rear door electric lock mechanism. Does anyone with an alarm system have a blinking dash light *and* a weak sounding four beep tone when exiting your vehicle? Just wondering if the blinks and beeps are related. Thanks,

Is this after the key is removed from the ignition or while it's still in there but switched to the off position?

Had to think about that for a moment . . . As I recall, it is switched off to kill the motor, but key still in the key hole.

That actually sounds pretty normal! My 2nd Gen does the "beep, beep, beep" thing while the key is in the ignition but the truck is off! If it does this after the key is removed, then you might have something to worry about :)

Went out to clarify . . . Ignition switched off - key still in ignition . . . five faint beeps. I'm guessing that's a tone to remind a person the key is still in the ignition. Thanks for the reply. . .

Yup; Now if only the older Tacos had a setting that prevented the door from being locked while the keys were anywhere in the vehicle!

If it has an aftermarket stereo deck it might be that beeping to remind you to remove the face plate (to prevent theft).

Charlie simple fix to that problem!

on the Key in the ignition is the vehicle key and House key.

In my left pocket is my key ring with all my other keys including all my vehicles and extra house key

To me it was well worth the money to buy another chipped key for my newer work Truck.

    I am never locked out

Hummm . . . it does indeed have an aftermarket stereo installed. As long as its a legitimate identifiable beep, unlike the ghostly likes of the little red light and the rear door locks, I'm okay with the beep-beep-beep.

Bingo! the beep-beep tone is from the aftermarket radio. Thanks for the info!

Mine does this in the MR2. I wonder if we have the same model.
