Boy oh boy, I've never heard of a dealership being such a PITA.

First I'll say it sounds like you're happy with the price you were able to negotiate, so that's a plus.

That's scratch/scuff looks pretty deep. Doesn't look it's down to metal, but it looks like it definitely went into the paint down to the primer. They have to touch it up or respray a small area.

Looks too deep to "buff out". I'd have them fix it prior to excepting the vehicle or get a work order on it. Either way it needs to be fixed.

I personally don't deal with the sales people. I go directly to the sales manager and make the deal with them. They don't try to Nickel and Dime you, they just want another sale in the books.

Hopefully they will take care of that scratch so you can be on your way!

Truck looks great by the way!

Sounds like you went to a typical corporate owned dealership that does not have a clue. Apparently you negotiated them down so far on price, that they were pissed off, and had an attitude. Not sure how your demeanor was, and if that affected their reaction. This could have and should have been a simple transaction. I see both sides. I worked a number of years as a Sales Manager in dealerships, and there is always the customer that is a hard negotiator, but has a chip on his shoulder, acts like the whole dealership staff is below him, and treats everyone like trash. A lot of these customers will justify lying to the dealership, just to get a good deal. These same people would go nuclear if the dealership treated them like they just treated the dealership. There is also the scenario that the Sales Manager is pissed off because a customer negotiated them down to a loss, and won't let the dealership push them through their rigid process, and provides poor customer service to everyone, especially the guy financing at his credit union, and getting the car cheaper than they wanted to sell it.

The reason the dealership wanted to know your rate, is to try and finance the deal there. This makes the transaction simpler for everyone. They get to close the deal right away, and not chase funding from a credit union. Not to mention, there is less likelihood of fraud or identity theft. You get to sign at the dealership, and don't have to deal with signing at the credit union as well. The dealership will make a couple hundred bucks from the finance company for financing it, but they are really trying to wrap the deal up and move on. Use this to your advantage. Make them beat the rate you have at your credit union, and save yourself some $$ and the hassle of going back and forth between the dealer and signing at your credit union. Unless there is another reason you want to use your credit union. Payroll deduct, etc. If they can't beat your rate, then definitely go through your bank.

If you came in with an attitude, and possibly bear some of the blame, then try to work it out with them, and get the transaction finished. If this was a case where they were going out of their way to be jerks, then I'd take the buyers order they sent to your credit union, find a dealership with a truck like yours, and present them the buyers order, and let them match or beat the price. Dealerships love to take deals out of the mouths of their competitors, and will gladly take a cheap deal in this case. Look up the dealership on YELP, and check their reviews. Look for a pattern. EVERY dealership will have some bad reviews, but if there is a pattern of a lot of bad reviews that have a similar story, don't buy there. Do business with dealerships that have a good reputation and good reviews. Pay a couple hundred dollars more if you need to at a good dealership, because the hassle isn't worth it.

As far as the scratch, it is what it is. You definitely don't want them repainting any part of the truck. If it's on the roof, who cares?

Would you be able to look at that every time you look at it? I know it will bug me every time I am strapping my boats up to the rack. Its a brand new vehicle, I should not have to deal with some thing not right off the lot. They will be fixing it either before I take the truck, or I will have it in writing (already got it in email).

It's a personal thing. I would rather have the scratch on the roof, than have them repaint the roof. If they are that bad with sales, I wonder how bad their body shop is. It does not look like it will buff out, since it looks like it went through the clear coat. Could possibly turn into another battle if they do a shitty job. You could have them dealer trade for a different truck, but it might arrive with a scratch as well.

Good luck with a bad situation. At least the diff doesn't howl!

    So......

    What happened?

Are you taking this truck? Going to a different dealer? Are they going to fix the scratch?

    Haven't heard an update.

Ya I got it, I am taking it in next week, they say it will take 3 days. I am guessing they are repainting the roof. I am not excited about this, but I believe that's the only true fix.

Love the truck, up to 150 miles, no real issues just loud sometimes when I shift. I also get confused and go to 6th when shifting to R, and sometimes hit R when going from N to 1st. But that's just me not used to it yet.

Check out the Smokey Bear link in the above post or in my sig.

That's definitely what I'd do. Repainting the area is the Best solution. Plus they will clear coat it.

I am not a fan of them washing it with their dirty rags and sponges but having them wet it down so you can feel around the interior for water leaks.
