I thought when they first arrived in the US back in the late 60s (1969?) they were called Hilux, but the name was phased out around '75 and just called pickup or truck (can't remember which) after that.

Had one back in 1976. From what I remember it was called a Toyota Pickup. Single cab, 4cyl, 4 speed, 7' box. Super reliable but rusted real bad.

T-100 was the lead into Tundra. I had it for about 5 yrs and sold it for what I paid for it. Like Toyota the trucks are great the mileage not so mush…. But it’s a truck and I luv my Tacoma

This picture of my '82 is circa 1992. I was 21 years old when I took this pic. I had 38" Super Swampers on it at one time and it would go "anywhere".
Pulled many many full size trucks out of the woods and mud with that ole girl.

This pic was taken a few months after I painted it (myself, lol) in my buddies garage and I had swapped the 38s out for 33's in favor of better drivability on road. It had a 22R carb'd motor. Bulletproof. Made some memories in that truck haha. I'd give my left one to have it back right now. I have an old copy of the reg somewhere and it says "Hilux" under the model designation. I may have a few more pics around If I can find them I'll post em up. Definitely has a early 90s vibe to it hahaha

My first Toyota was an '83 and was referred to as a Hilux as well. I had 33x12.5's on it. 5th gear was about useless unless going downhill with a good tailwind.

Haha, yep I had one, a 94 extended cab. As far as I remember only access was folding seat forward. Enough room for riding gear.

I wound up putting a 3" body lift, 4" suspension (Rancho) and rolled on 35's. Once again if I remember correctly they had torsion bars on the front, crank'em to lift the front. I had a dark green one and had all the decals removed. All the red/white Rancho stuff looked pretty cool on it.

After all the mods I kept it for 4 months and traded it in on a F150, looked good but rode like a buckboard. All my buds said it looked like one those little Stomper trucks. It needed re-geared badly, couldn't get out of its own way except on a long downhill.

Mine was a 4 speed. Used to run it in 4 low second gear in the mud. Once the tire speed spooled up a bit it was unstoppable.
Absolutely horrible on the highway. At 21 I didn't give a shit tho, it looked cool lol.

Had a '79 Deluxe in quicksand, paid $9,100 for it, other than regular maintenance only replaced alternator and about 4 batteries, even with its R22 motor and MT that truck was unstoppable, best truck I ever owned!

    That might've been RL Osborn's 911, as I remember Woody's being a convertible?

I always wanted RL's sister Windy back in the day.

I remember seeing the photo of a BMX rider doing three 930 Turbos.

I'm about a decade too young to remember this as anything other than falling down a BMX rabbit hole. My late cousin did the same photo over his Pinto on a Hutch Trickstarr.

Back on topic, I miss my 1993 Xtracab a ton.

Yeap as previous posters said, my understanding is that the T100 was the predecessor of the Tundra.

Really liked the early 90s and prior trucks for both Nissan and Toyota, maybe even up to the first gen Tacoma(2004 and prior). I think a lot of my perception of their images came from those trucks. Knew people with 300k miles on those trucks and one of them only got replaced in the last several years because it got wrecked in an accident.

In my previous neighborhood there was someone who had a T100 that I thought looked good and functional. Kind of made me wish I was into trucks earlier so I could've gotten one of those earlier ones new and took care of it on my own to keep all these years.

1982 SR5 with 5 speed and 22r motor. Had bucket seats that I had to swap out for a bench when the Daughter came along. Had to add a AAL and 6ply tires to handle the camper. Had many great camping trips and ventures in that truck

Looks like an old Chevy suburban behind you and another Chevy pick up in the driveway. Funny that the Tacoma is doing all the heavy lifting :D

I am sure you enjoyed that camper. It looks like it would be fun.
