    Those pieces of printed plastic don't look like the brake light mold, at all.

    I'm only interested in this if it's around the $100 range, tbh. And I've already seen what the OP posted as his 'costs' for material, that said, it may be too rich for my blood no matter it's cool/function factor.

    Nobody said mold. But you are correct, they are 3D printed.(ABS to be exact)

    "if it's around the $100 range"
    Sorry, this isn't for charity. I would suggest sticking with your stock brake light. Just carry a pocket flashlight for bed lights:thumbsup:

    But yes, they are the housings for the LED lights. Here's my Double Cab 3rd gen model to give you an idea;

    This may not actually work for 2nd gen, without moding the plastic mount inserts in the cab. The 2nd gen mounts are wider than the light by a few mm.

    Keep us posted. That's weird, because that light is for a 2nd gen. It's not a OEM housing, so all bets are off.

    But the spread of my 2nd gen mount tabs was a couple mm wider than the light and caused the light mount tab to break off, before I even fully tightened it down. The difference looked small enough I thought it would be easily fugable. (Note the mount is missing in the photo because it is in the light, so the mount hole is slightly smaller than pictured).
    IMG_2126.jpg

    Looking at the light design vs the OEM unit there is a noticeable mounting difference between the two. The OEM unit has all mating surfaces connect to each other down the mount point shaft, creating a solid tunnel for the screw to go down. This aftermarket unit floats the mount point on an extruded peice of just the lens alone, that then has trailing hole in the backing plate with no connection and a notable gap between the two, which is a weaker design.

    I think the mount points not lining up like stock, plus putting all the stress of a slightly angled screw on a floating lens mount cause the lens mount to break. Either one alone would likely be fine, but both together were not.

    The OEM unit is made in the USA. The aftermarket unit is made in China.

    Or maybe I just tightened it too much for a test install without the new gasket in place and the light did not get snug before the floating screw mount design broke and it is all user error. But the light was not even snug.

    For what it is worth the aftermarket lens design is not the OPs fault. The unit looks very well modified by the OP. The brake light is nice and bright and puts out a great pattern. The brake light did plug right into the OEM 2nd gen connector. I may still wire up the cargo lights this evening and get some output pics even though the light is now broken.

    I think the design is promising, but for the 2nd gen version I would highly recommend a new supplier for the housing. One which has mounting points that mate all surfaces all the way through the screw hole like the OEM unit.

    Is there any wiggle room on the factory plastic mounts?

    Nope. I checked, they could be widened with a drill though.
