    Not an option either. It's too expensive. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of going with steel. It's just so much stronger and more durable.

    I was going to suggest this. Lightweight is great, but the piece is not huge and steel seems the way to go.

    steel is heavy. it's still a nice basket but not for me if steel. aluminum I wanted bad

    Although steel can have defective powder coating, I missed out on KBVooDoo's Powder Coated Cargo Basket last deal because I had the aluminum bed cross brackets. Aluminum was deemed too weak for the basket.

    So aluminum would probably show the same weakness in the new cargo basket, especially if you are hanging additional items off it. As Chad would say, steel is real.

    I can't make everybody happy, but I think steel is the right material for this project.

    It will be stronger, and it's not a big assembly, so the added weight is trivial.
