My belt tensioner as well as the top pullys began to go around 200K miles. I was able to purchase a complete set of pullys thru Amazon, they are not OEM but have been working well for 20K miles so far.

Probably have a failing idler or tensioner but could be AC compressor, alternator, or PS pump.
See: (post #7 has part #s for an 09 should be same)
Idler pulleys, tensioner, belt, and alternator replacement | Tacoma World

With belt off spin all and see which grind or drag then if over 100K miles think about at least doing the 3 idlers and maybe the tensioner pulley (tension arm is a bitch to get too).
OEM is best so if keeping Tacoma spent the extra bucks. Heat and age do wear out the belt so that may be all you need. Get OEM belt or top quality not a cheapo.

A little more info would help. What do you mean it's getting eaten up? Like, one edge is fraying? It's cracking? Snapping off?

Rockauto sells pulley kits. There is a thread somewhere here about the Continental kit.

Have you taken the belt off and looked at the pulleys?

    Serious question.

Also, how many miles on the engine?

There may be a spacer in the wrong place on one of the pulleys. Check the diagram for correct position.

Sounds like you did not use OEM tensioner pulley. The after market pulleys do not line up correctly.

What you need to do is toss the after market pulleys and tensioner in the trash can and take your original OEM pulleys and change the bearings.

    That will solve your problem.

I changed my belt the other day and installed the bottom passenger side most idler pulley on the wrong side. Instant belt eating, there was a strip torn off on the engine side. It's really easy to get that pulley on the wrong side. It's got slightly less tension that way that's not that noticeable. Anyway I have a Continental Belt from Autozone, 3 year warranty so they swapped it for free.

Side note: the first Continental was from Mexico that squeaked. I took that back and the gave me a "made in Germany" belt and wow the quality was night and day. I installed that one wrong and it got instantly eaten. Took it back and they gave me another made it mexico one. We'll see how long this one lasts

How did you install the belt wrong? There not directional no? I’m gonna swap my idle pulleys to see if that helps

Idler No.2 next to the power steering pump was on the wrong side. I had it under instead of over the top.

Thought I had it set correct, fired it up and something was wrong. Shut it off quickly

I looked and that's the one I had wrong. Feeling the belt confirmed the wrong side of the belt was riding on the pulley.

I took the belt off and got all the strands out from around the pulley's.

I spun all my pulley's quite a few times and confirmed they were fine. It's good to swap them anyway....

after reading your "torn on engine side" I thought I chime in with my experience.

    Good Luck!

So it's still happening? If it's still getting eaten up on the inside edge, that tells me that it's rubbing up against something or something is loose and allowing it to rub against something. Did you go around the entire belt and see whats hitting it? I'd imagine whatever it is will look clean in relation to the other parts in the area since the belt rub will essentially polish whatever its hitting.
