Last week I was in at Toyota and got my idler pulley changed and they said that i have gotten motor oil on my belt when I did my last change (I admit it was a messy one) which is why I'm getting a high pitch squeal on cold start ups. They said it will eventually dry up but I'm annoyed and embarrassed with the sound so I'm wondering if there is any product or way to clean the oil off without damaging or weakening the belt.

    Any advice would be great!

You could either remove the belt and clean it with mild soap and water, or buy a new belt. I would also clean off the pulley surfaces while the belt is off. Come up from the bottom of the engine bay, they belt is really easy to remove.

Try spraying the belt and pulley with an engine degreaser. Give it like 10 minutes to do its thing. Then rinse off and dry. See if that works.

I surprised they didn't sell you a new belt since oil was on it.
