So, I found a first gen Tacoma I'm looking to buy. But, its in another city. I'm being told that there's a squealing sound (belt?) when first starting the truck. It goes away after a bit. Also, it only happens when starting truck with the a/c on.

Can anyone diagnose from afar? Alternator Belt? Any other possibilities?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

engine size would br helpful, but more then likely belt is out of tension.

something like described is like, 99% something to do with the belts. and even more so because you stressed it had to do with the AC. so like 99.99% sure. don't worry. when you get it just change all the belts and see when the timing has been done.

Thanks, when you say all belts, you mean a/c, alternator, and power steering, right? And inquire about timing belt.... am I missing any?

    The 4-banger has a timing CHAIN :D

One of the 3 accessory belts is likely a little loose, causing the squeal.
Very minor issue, unless they are lying to you.

Like said, 3 belts, 1 for AC, 1 for power steering and 1 for alternator.
The AC and ps belts each have manually adjustable tension via an idler pulley. The alternator itself rotates to adjust the tension on that belt.

I replaced all 3 belts and 2 idler pulleys on my 2.7l Tacoma as they would squeal a bit at start up, having the AC on puts additional load on that belt and will make it more likely to squeal, or squeal louder.

It was relatively cheap to buy 3 belts and 2 idler pulleys, $150-200 for it all. If you can turn a wrench you can change them out.
