If you guys are out exploring China Hat Rd anytime soon, keep an eye out for Lester Hyder. He has been missing for over a week now. They found his truck near "Cabin Butte" on China Hat Rd. Anyone know where this is on a map? Cant find it on google myself yet. I've spent a lot of time in that area riding dirtbikes and exploring in the taco, but rarely with snow. Our Search and Rescue team is headed there wed-thurs from Albany to help.

I'll keep a eye out. I go out there often, was just out there Sunday but didn't know about this. I ride my bike around the butte in the summer, always take NF-1815. I'M about 90% sure this is cabin butte.

There are several ad hoc shooting ranges around cabin butte. Walking thru the snow could get confusing and there are some places that are slick, easy to fall. Please correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't the police say he has early stage dementia? That could compound the 'lost and confused' component. He could have taken any of the snow covered trails thinking it was a way out. That's easy to do when it's snow-covered.

@GSPRunner killer! Would be cool to hook up and have some fun! Snow has been great.

Cabin butte is right off of China hat road to the left after you pass nf1815. When we went out Sunday there was a mobile command center set up along with about 25 sherif trucks. They were all set up right where 1810 splits off to the right off of China hat. Tried talking to a sherif but he was pretty tight lipped about what they were doing

It may sound a bit odd, but I really enjoyed the remodeled Riverhouse Hotel bar. Tons of TVs and probably won't be that busy on the weekend.

The drive wasn't bad. Little packed snow out of Prineville for about 20 miles then clear roads. We did get snow last night so not sure what it looks like now.

Gorgeous view. Sucks when you're in traffic, though.
