A larger wheel will "step" over bumps, holes, gaps....etc in the pavement easier than a smaller wheel. Think in the extreme. A 6" pneumatic tire will give a "rougher" ride than a 27" pneumatic tire.

A larger wheel should have a lower rolling resistance, but this is heavily influenced by the tire.

Although, the difference between a 16" and a 17" will be very small.

a larger wheel can allow for a brake upgrade with bigger rotor.

Ok this peaks my interest because I feel like since I got heavier tires and wheels my Taco’s breaking power has gone down

Lol... If I'm not mistaken, with tires mounted, both 16&17" wheels are the same height, side by side.

This is because the larger rim is taking up side wall space that is there with the 16" tire.

That being said, there are advantages to each depending on the application. The larger sidewall on the 16"tire is more forgiving with curbs, potholes, rocks, whereas, the 17" tires have less sidewall or cushion before things go bad.

The 17" tire will handle better on pavement, in corners, etc because the shorter sidewall is going to flex less.... keeping the rim more centered on the tire and thus more weight on the tread.

Friction... Gotta luv it sometimes. Lil

most people lift the truck add bigger tires then need more power to push it and then upgrade the engine/exhaust and never think about brakes and transmissions.

Ever wonder why the TRD offroads came in 16 inch wheels and the sports came with 17 inch wheels and stiffer suspension?

I’m pretty sure breaks is my next project, I loathe the feeling of my truck rolling down a trail

Without changing pads, etc, I swapped to longer braided stainless brake lines when I installed my lift. Night and day difference by itself. Well worth the money.

Anymore I think there are better tire size choices with a 17" wheel.

I’ve heard the braided break lines does wonders. How hard was the install?

When you add 1" dia to the wheel, you have to remove 1" dia from the tire to make an equal dia situation

If you keep the treadwidth the same, that means a lower aspect ratio

    The tire calculator may help.

17 has more C load 285 and 265 choices, giving you more lighter weight but still strong choices.

What in the actual fuck are you talking about!? Lol

You get more tire size choices with a 17” wheel and you can fit bigger brake calipers. 16” wheels look cooler with similar size overall wheel/tire package because you get more sidewall. On the other hand Some people prefer the opposite and want more metal and less sidewall.

I think he may have meant tire instead of wheel in first sentence. It makes a little more sense that way I think:notsure:

When the first time I rotated the tires on my wife's TRDOR, 255/85/16 she went to back out the drive way and there was a weird clicking noise...I was like wth? The way the rear wheel weights were placed they slightly rubbed on the caliper. Very little. 5 minutes or less each side with right angle grinder to the caliper :anonymous:
