Like already mentioned, 17" wheels have more tire options and can fit bigger brakes. But a 17" tire will have less sidewall (if comparing equal height tires) than the 16" so the 16 would absorb bumps/potholes a little better. Less sidewall = less flex so the 17 would handle turns better, but these are trucks, not sports cars.

None whatsoever until you get up to certain 35/37”+ tires.

Stick with 16s. More rubber than metal is a good thing.

How would wheel size effect airing down? Or does it?

Providing the tires have the same “height,” the smaller wheel will have more tire to flex out when airing down

Agreed!! 17s only look good with a 35 tyre or larger

my SR5 came from the previous owner with 245 70R 17s in place of the stock 245 75R 16s. Same tire height as the stock spare, rides nice and handles nice.

It’s as simple as this: do you want more wheel and less tire, or more tire and less wheel. I’d rather have more tire.

That said, there is a major benefit to having 17 over 16: a million more tire size options.

I run stock OR 16’s for what it’s worth

As far as braided lines goes the install is easy but the bleeding process sucks. I had a local shop put them on when I did a fluid flush and it was worth the extra few bucks. I would highly recommend getting extended lines for the rear (lift options) and having a local shop do the bleeding. It made a huge difference in pedal feel.

Regarding 17's vs 16's the real question is how much or at all you off road. If this is a pavement queen you should get the biggest wheel you can afford with the lowest profile tire that fits. If it's a truck you want (and will) take off road you should stick with the stock 16's and get a set of good tires to do so. The anwer your question is what your intentions and real world uses are.

For example; I use my truck to commute 15 miles a day from marin to San Francisco in addition to road trips as far as SLO. I also go camping and exploring around California a few times per year. The solution for me is to have a set of tires that are great on handling and gas, and a separate set that is great on snow and rocks.

Your question about wheels size is simple. Get a set of 17's with streeties for your daily commute and a set of 16's with knobbies for your weekend treks.

If you can't afford this than take a trip in either direction. When you get stuck or break something you will spend more than the extra tires/wheels will have cost you.

@j8food what did the brake flush and line installation cost ya if you don't mind me asking??
Also, what tires are you currently running?

I had a local shop do my front and rear brake pads plus lines and fluid flush for $130. They honestly didn't know the correct procedure so I got a great deal on the whole job. Despite that they let me bring my own pads and shoes with no extra charge.

At the time I had general grabber at2 on my stock wheels and 2017 TRD offroad wheels and tires as my street set.
