I haven't heard of the akorn yet. Now I'm interested. Honestly, I'd like green egg or kamodo joe, but the prices are far outside my range. I've always used vertical propane water smokers with great results, so I could never justify spending that kind of cash.

The Weber Smokey Mountain has done well by me, but I wish I had gotten the 22" instead of the 18.5".

I'd like to say my next one will be custom, but we'll see how that goes.

I picked up an Akorn Jr. before the last KY trip for camp duties. It grilled and smoked a butt like a champ even without a heat diffuser.

I imagine the bigger Akorn is just as good. If I didn’t already have two WSMs and a Kettle, I’d have gotten the Akorn as a do it all grill/smoker.

Akorn Jr looks awesome, but not a lot of grill space. Can you put a butt on this thing?

YUP! Was in Nawlins last week for a professional meeting with surgeons- had to be "ON" from early AM, until early AM, haha. lots of long nights. Then straight to Scout camping- Yes I slept outside in the rainy crappy cold weather. Then a Scout leader meeting; Busy with head cold yesterday, then another leader meeting last night.

Yes...but for home use I wouldn’t recommend the Jr. as it’s just too small when you’ve got the space for the big one for not much more money. The Jr. is great as a camp grill/smoker.

I'll probably smoke a small-ish butt to bring with and then something easy for smoking day of. Thinking smoked whiskey chuck burgers. Those are like a super food or something.
