The picture of when it was silver over a year ago with an even bed gap versus a few months ago. Notice how the gap gets wider towards the top. No idea what may have caused this apart from the time when I had 10 people crammed in my bed. What do people on here think? Bent frame or a misaligned bed? (It's been taken off in between the two pics)

That's a pretty substantial change. I would suggest first (easiest) check would be to look at the bed mounts. I know some people have had them wear through and collapse.

Hard to tell if the frame is bent without seeing pictures of the frame. Do you have any pictures? Alignment of the bed does look a bit off in the picture, but can't conclude its a bent frame from pictures provided. I doubt 10 in the bed would bend a frame in good condition. Looks like the truck has been lowered in the pictures posted. Has it been lowered?

Could it have been placed back on and misaligned when you had it taken off for that paint job? +1 for check your bed mounts.

10 people in your bed probably exceeded your payload rating which is bad even if it wasn't the cause of the misalignment. Tacomas are not as durable as steel trucks from the old days..

The truck is lowered with a modified rear section of frame for more clearance (DJM kit) and is in relatively good condition except for the one spot where I think it's bent. Here's a pic I just took at work, not the best picture but you can see how the rust is starting to split the steel apart and looks like it's slightly buckled on the bottom. Truck also doesn't like right turns and gets excessive wheel hop bit only on right turns.

When I reinstalled the bed after the wrap it didn't have this problem. And bed mounts are all perfect as there's overall not much rust on the truck besides in the middle section

    All stock, baby!
I’m trying to figure out how the frame could bend such that you’d get a larger gap at the top, rather than a smaller one. An overload condition should lead to the frame bending downwards, closing the gap at the top of the bed. Putting it on a lift with the lift points in the wrong position could I suppose load it in a way that could cause that, but only if the frame was already compromised in some way.

The bottom of the frame is pretty much dead flat for a good distance either side of that location; can you get a 4 foot level on there to see if you can detect any bow?

My guess is because the frame is starting to rot right in the middle of the cab on the bottom side that weakened it enough to bend either from carrying too much weight behind the back axle or maybe from driving too hard but it's not like Ive ever sent it off the road or anything. I can see that the metal is bent around the rust spot but I'll definitely evaluate the whole rail with a level when I get home. It's the original frame that got a half assed recall undercoat in 2017 at 13k miles (truck is a 2010) so I'm gonna try and get a new frame from Toyota but I'm expecting them to tell me to screw myself when they see that the truck is modified, even though the mods have nothing to do with the rust.

The pic you posted is pretty bad so its hard to tell, but I dont think that rust is that bad and could be treated. Regardless the rest of the frame above that section looks very good, no way that is bent unless you got rear ended? Thats typically what causes a gap like this is getting rear ended by someone from what Ive seen.

Also whats up with the wheel hop?

Maybe your truck identifies as a dump truck?
Stick some MACK decals on it. Problems solved:thumbsup: Maybe:notsure:
