The only time I’ve ever seen a bent input shaft is when the trans was removed/installed and the tech let it hang off the back of the engine before bolting up the bell housing.

Doubtful, was just wondering if the transmission lived a regularly serviced life. If the fluid was never changed or something I could see the bearings going bad is all.

Did they pull the transmission a second time to confirm the bent shaft they claim or is that just a guess after the first round of parts didn't work?

Got it. Love the idea of it just being a bearing.

They did not pull the transmission after they installed the new parts. That was just their guess based on the noise.
So it technically has not been diagnosed as a bent input shaft.

Well, a bearing I’m thinking of would be internal and would essentially be a “rebuild” of the transmission which probably not many shops will be willing to do. Although maybe. Hard to say.

I’d probably be looking for used nearby. If you’re anywhere near Texas, I’ll have one in Dallas available soon.

Ok right on. Good to know. I'll keep an eye on it and plan on sourcing a used transmission in the near future. For now I guess I'll just drive it until I can't.

If the input shaft was bent, you'd have issues with the clutch failing to fully disengage.

If your noise goes away when the clutch is depressed (release) and the vehicle is stopped, you have a bearing failing inside the transmission on the input shaft

If never change transmission oil, never hurt to change it out, can check it’s confition. Can do it yourself, but make sure it is GL-4 gear oil, and the fill plug of manual transmission can be removed.
