I have a 2001 Extended Cab Tacoma TRD/4wd V6 Auto. 176k miles. I just purchased it a few months ago and I am going through it servicing everything. Today I replaced the plugs, wires and coils. The old plugs looked OK but very well used. The #6 plug (left rear) has a bent electrode. Does anyone have any ideas what could have caused this? The plug was a single electrode.
It is a NGK Iridium. I replaced these with NGK twin electrode laser platinums. Thank you!!

Did you install this originally? Or could it have been bent before it was installed by someone else?

No, I did not install this. I do not know the service history of my truck. I am going through everything. It very well could have been bent before installation, makes more sense. maybe the guy who did this needs a better prescription for his eyeglasses, gap was WAY off!!!

I think the installer dropped it and put it in anyway... the price difference between the incorrect plug and the correct one is like $1.50 each at least in the Denso brand.

no real other way it could happen like that, if it was an internal problem you would have other major problems. Im surprised it wasnt running rough with that spark plug.

I cant see any possible way it gets bent like that by the engine, if it gets hit its going to bend straight up (closed) but not to the side

had to be like that when installed, you sure they were even the right number plugs? they definitely were the wrong type and gapped wrong so .....

I showed it to a mechanic friend of mine today. He said the same things you guys are saying...bent before installation by someone who just doesn't care!! it is running so smooth right now, like a brand new engine with non bent plugs!!
