Maybe people can hire this guy to sit in the back seat and open/close the window as needed.

My guess (could be wrong) is he has dropped this project. He isn't very active anymore and the last time he posted anything at all about this mod was over a year ago.

Yea that's true. Someone with the time and resources could pick it back up and get us all sliding windows! I really don't want to have to do this myself and I'm relying on the drive of someone else cause you know...lazy

I know this is old and all that jazz, but I am still having trouble wrapping my head around this whole tension issue.

I still haven't ordered the motor/track from the Ridgeline, but I'm going to today.

When it comes in, I'm going to mount it under the rear panels on the passenger side. I will cut 5" off of it to match the 12" track width of the Tacoma slide.

Couple questions hopefully someone can help out with:
How do I apply tension and keep it to the motor so I can have as little tension possible when installing the pull-pull bracket-I saw zip ties, but how do they apply tension?
How do the bicycle cable adjusters play into all this because they seem to be the better route instead of moving a bracket and keep drilling into the window wall?
Which are the best/better type of cable adjusters to use?

I've got my pull-pull bracket made so just need to get the other bits and pieces and I can look forward to actually opening my rear window!

Now that the 2017 has a power window think we'll be seeing some kits come out?

The motor has strong springs at each cable exit from the motor housing. These springs supply the system tension unless enough slack is reached to where the springs have extended to their natural length. The zip ties you saw in some pictures are just to hold the springs compressed during installation, then they are snipped off and the springs pop back into supplying tension. The bicycle cable adjusters cannot take the place of the springs, they only make assembly easier. This is because ideally you want the springs starting off almost completely compressed. To assemble a system with zero slack is almost impossible. With the bike adjusters you can assemble the system with the springs compressed, but don't have to stress about them relaxing slightly as soon as you finish the install - as you can re-compress them by extending the bike adjusters to a point where the spring is near fully compressed again.

Wiring is the easy part as long as the window isn't crazy expensive.

As Acka noted, the zip ties are there purely to hold the springs compressed until you finish the installation. Get long zip ties, like 12"ers. I used one to go around the cable just tight enough to act as a shim that pushes the spring down and another zip tie to go through the one around the cable to the back of the motor assy. I happened to use a regulator/motor from a 2010 Ram but the concept is the same. Paint the bracket black so it isn't as noticeable in the window. I also used 3M black super weatherstrip adhesive to glue the bracket to the window because the bracket will lift slightly when the window hits the stops. Good luck - you'll really like being able to actually use the window.

    Give me a week.

Going to see if its possible to small scale manufacture the brackets required.... Can't be that hard. The motor and wiring are easy, its just mounting it all together to the window that is hard, but with the right part could be easy... I think.
