I normally carry my s&w 38sp, but i want a larger full size handgun so i can leave one at home etc...

After a few months of holding different guns, I've decided the most comfortable gun to me is a Beretta 92fs, and a 1911. Both seem to have a narrow grip feel which suits my hands comfortably, and overall i'm confident in both aspects of these two models.

My perfect gun would be a 92fs frame shooting a .45. But that doesn't exist. I'm not a big fan of the px4 storm as it has a 4" rotating barrel. A 1911 would be nice as well, but that's also going to cost a couple hundred + more than the 92fs.

So figured i'd let TW voice their opinions.

    As i'm sure 99% of you know what a 1911 looks like, here's a 92fs

If it was me choosing I'd get the 1911, I personally don't like the 92.

I have a 96fs and my dad has a 1911. The 1911 is so much better.

I really regret my purchase every time we go shooting. The 1911 is more accurate and feels better in my hand. The only handgun I like better than the 1911 is the Sig P226.

Or, you could just be 103 yrs. old. The stopping power of the .45 1911 makes it an easy choice. The Beretta is a great gun, though. Bigger holes = less enemy...

Never the 92. But they're nice guns.

    1911!

Thank you all for your insight :) I'll save up some more and go the 1911 route.

A low and slow 45 ACP round out of a full steel frame, there is something different about it compared to even 45 ACP out of a G21.

Don't be afraid of Rock Island. Ugly roll mark, but I have 5000 rds out of my RI GI without any malfunction that isn't ammo related.

An FN FNP 45 Tactical would be nice with 15 rds, but it's costly.

I love how the 92 shoots. Plus if they worked for the Marines.... But I guess that can be said for both guns.

Either one benefits from having a good armorer give them a going over out of the box.

The 92 is faster, like a Euro bike.

But like twisting the throttle on a Harley, nobody mistakes when you open up with a 1911.

    jmho.

92f is a great pistol, but nothing beats a .45 (IMO). Ive trained with an issued 1911, and I ultimately chose a Smith 4506, and carried it every day for 10 years. I always figured it was a less complicated, less expensive version that performed virtually the same as a 1911.(save for any of the wazzoo, modified 1911 versions out there). For the last 10 years Ive carried a Glock 21 for business, and most recently a Glock 30S for EDC. Higher capacity than a 1911, and its easier to conceal than both the 94f and the 1911. Best advice I can give is go shoot as many guns as possible. Decide what it will ultimately used for, and make your own choice. Be safe.

    Lol heavy they say

A .40 was my original thought, but than i was turned towards a .45 to avoid the snappy .40 recoil.

The ex-Navy guy who fixed my dishwasher told me about the Rock Island one. He loves his and said almost the exact same thing, "don't be weary of the Rock Island 1911".

I'd buy a Rock Island before I'd buy several others.

If you're looking for a 1911 in the 92FS pricing ballpark, you could always look at the Ruger SR1911 :notsure:
Every review I've read on them has been positive, and when I was at Cabela's the other day they were within $50 of each other ($649 for the Beretta 92A1; $699 for the Ruger)
