How profitable is a short ram intake? Should I do a muffler?

Do whatever you want to do to it.Only you can appreciate the work and money spent.Word of advice interior mods like a really good head unit, some bright reverse lights, and other helpful and comfort mods really make you enjoy the truck more. The main thing you should be worried about is maintenance and doing whatever you enjoy

No muffler mods until the one you got rusts through. Can't make it sound much better.

Would skip a cold air intake especially if offroading. Get the aFe washable airbox filter instead.

    Diff drop. Lower ball joints.

    Thicker skid plates. Rock sliders.
When more money, fix the rear lift & replace with better shocks & a more flexible leaf pack with lift built in.

Don't listen to the old guys telling you not to do anything. They just don't want your truck to be cooler than theirs. Build on.

I just undid most of the stupid/half-assed mods I did when I was 16 lol.

If you are going to wheel the truck I would do these mods in this order, obviously not all at once:
    Sliders
    Skid plates
    Winch
    Rear locker
255/85/16 mud terrains of some sort and the smallest lift to fit them
    Crawlbox

With that setup you would be able to run 90% of the trails out there, it wont break and you can DD it.

Put in a nice magnetic cell phone mount on the heating vents, easy to read maps on long trips. Upgrade the oem 22 year old head unit and any speakers and enjoy it.

I like the 3rd gen wheels, looks clean and what most people enjoy the tacoma for as a smaller truck, reliable engine, frame that usually rusts out before the engine dies.

The part about not being able to make it sound better that stock I don’t agree with. Do a cat delete and short ram intake. That will noticeably help power and sound. 3rd gen wheels look good.

I’m 17 and have been wanting to mod my 98 Tacoma a bit more too lol. Maybe you should check out some front and rear bumpers. Those can make the truck look cooler and they can increase the trucks clearance.

Mods to protect your truck are always a good start like diff breather extensions.

Ain't that the truth. I've probably spent in excess of $10k in offroad mods and offroad repairs over the past 4 years I've had my truck. Shit adds up quick, and if you offroad regularly the costs go way up.

Can’t believe there’s almost two pages and no mention of the best mod for a 95-98:

Get an 01-04 center console with real cup holders and storage.

Cup holders are the best mod IMO. Driving 5 speed with no cup holders is PITA. I've lost many ounces of Rockstar, Monster, coffee, polar pop, etc on myself n the floor
