I am wondering what the best exhaust system would be for my 2004 2.7 tacoma. My friend prefers flowmaster but i want to know what the best hp gain is for my engine.

Only noticable gains your gona get exhaust wise is with a header.

Besides that choose a muffler or catback with your preferred sound

I have an LCE on my 2.7. Certainly didnt notice any gains but it is a nice unit! Exhaust these days dont offer the HP gains that they used to back in the day. The 2.7 and 3.4 were pretty well engineered right outta the box for optimal power. Same goes for when people think they need to get a cold air intake...it already has a CAI from the factory and almost all the kits out there just make the system less efficient and less "cold"!

I would get an OEM mini header and keep it stock. Just a waste of money otherwise.

Here is two video Comparisons of my 2016 SR 2.7L 5 Speed 4x4! I saw some gains out of adding the header and intake, ran the truck on a dyno to verify the numbers before and after the header install!

So today I ran the 2016 SR 5 Speed 4 Cylinder on the Dyno for the final test after the new LCE Engineering Header. So here are the results!
You have to take the #'s i got and add 20% for the chassis Dyno!

So the stock truck ratings are 159 hp & 180 ft. lbs of torque.

Looks like with the AFE Pro Dry S Cold Air intake & Stock Exhaust I gained 3.94 hp & 6.82 ft. lbs of torque.
Then the gains from the LCE Performance Header & Stock Exhaust are 12.39 hp. & 8.30 ft. lbs of torque.

So overall with my AFE Pro Dry S Cold Air intake & the LCE Performance Header & the stock exhaust I gained a total of 16.33 hp & 15.12 ft. lbs of torque. Its defiantly noticeable with running the LT 265 75 16 tires and my 3" lift.

This run is with the Stock Header & the AFE Pro Dry S Cold Air intake:

This is the run with the LCE Performance Header & the AFE Pro Dry S Cold Air Intake:

    Both the Dyno runs combined:

You're comparing 2016 engine vs 2004 engine OP has. The gains don't carry over.

Thanks man! You don't know the real numbers unless you dyno it, anyone can can they got gains but usually cant prove it!

Totally. Lots of people use the "butt dyno" based on how it feels so it's nice to see objective numbers like these

The way I drive I would never see any of that horsepower gain. I hardly ever go above 3500 RPMs.

Torque curve is mighty linear. That's pretty sweet. Good to see these results on 'paper'.

I do but I don't need to go over 3500 RPM's to do it.
