I have a 2008 Taco, currently running Eagle Eyes black housing headlight assemblies with FCKLightBars LED lamps. Problem is, the geometry of the assembly is obviously slightly different than OEM and rubs agains my Chassis Unlimited steel bumper.

Looking for an alternative, so just curious about your opinions on the best aftermarket headlight assembly manufacturer...

Thanks for the link! Lots going on in that thread. Are you referring to the guy that disassembled and painted the inside of his OEM headlight assemblies? Unfortunately I don't have the OEMs, so am looking for a good aftermarket option - or, if the best truly is the OEM, then paying $$$ for a replacement set. I'll be using my FCK LEDs either way, so really just looking for a recommendation on the housing/assembly. My only current issue is that the shape of my current set is causing them to rub against the bumper, which makes me think the bumper was designed around the OEM part.

EDIT to clarify that I have no problem shelling out the $$$ for the OEMs if they really are the best option...

Yes, OEM is truly the best option if you're looking for a very well designed, engineered and manufactured housing that will both last and put maximum usable light on the ground. The Ultimate Headlight Upgrade will improve performance even more. LED bulbs are not recommended though.

There are many articles about how led bulbs do not project light properly from a housing not designed for led bulbs.

No, but since you don't have the OEM you could buy a set of the blacked-out housings if you like them better.

Like the others said and described in crashnburn80's thread LED's are better suited for a projector style housing vs a reflective. Give that thread a good read its very informative and then decide. It really comes down to if you want looks or if you want your headlights to perform and be safe for on road use.

Also I don't believe the LED bulbs would benefit as much from the upgraded harnesses. They draw less and don't react the same to drops or increase in voltage. I could be wrong, someone will correct me if I am hopefully.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I appreciate all the tips on LED bulbs, but my issue here is not lamp efficacy; I have plenty of lighting power on my truck. My original post was for recommendations on headlight assembly/housing options - specifically to address the issue of my current assemblies rubbing on the bumper due to their shape.

Thank you. This is good info on the OEM.

I do like the look of the black housing better, but the look is secondary to build quality and shape being close to OEM so that they fit.

I'm still interested in any recommendations on best aftermarket housing manufacturers based on personal experience.

My experience is people who put LED bulbs into headlights end up blinding everyone on the road.
