I have factory 17" aluminum tacoma wheels from 2002.
    I have a moderate lift At 1.5"
and I want some 31" or 32" tires.
I'm curious to get some opinions on the ideal tire size for daily driving.
Clearance shouldn't be an issue but I don't want to get a tire that's too wide or tires that create too much drag and reduce mpg too drastically.

5100's all around, 2.75 inch lift, polyurethane body mounts, gibson exhaust, variation of the deckplate mod, intake resonators removed 285-75-16 goodyear AT
265-65-17 your best bet I would think

I put 265/70/17's on stock 2wd prerunner suspension and they rub a bit at full lock. Kinda disappointing since the same size on 16's didn't rub but who knows, you might be good with the lift. I got general grabber at2's.

Which 17" do you have? Considering no 1st Gen came with 17's from factory I assume you have Toyota 17" from a later vehicle. This matters as backspacing is different.

^this is correct, 31" tire size is standard and easiest on mpg.

so the 265/75-16 didn't rub at all?

Nope, not at all. I never had an aggressive tire on the truck though...previous were all highway tires.

My mistake, the wheels are 16" aluminum 5 spoke.
    the tires i have now are 265 70 r16.

    How much height difference is there between 265 70 16 and 265 75 16?
If i wanted a 32" or 33" tire what would you suggest?

I put 255/70/17 cooper at3's on my stock height Tacoma. I was scared that 265/70/17 would rub. I'm glad I went with this size as I was still able to increase my wheel height slightly over stock while also keeping my mudflaps (they hardly rub the mudflaps, 265/70/17 would have ripped them off). Since you have a 1.5" lift, you would be good with 265/70/17.
