One of the most disliked things about the M&P is the trigger. it's kind of sloppy and a little heavy. a lot of overtravel and a double reset. But once the trigger is fixed, the M&P is hands down the best polymer DA only on the market

If you really want a Glock go to any pawnshop they will have plenty which means you can negotiate a good deal.

    Personally I’m not a fan.

Unless she's going to shoot it frequently tell her to stick with the revolvers...that's the NRA's recommendation...Unless you're going to shoot 1-2 times a month - use a revolver for protection....not safety to forget about...won't jam....point-n-click...

I would look into the XD models. The usually come with a kit that includes a holster and a couple of extra magazines for a competitive price close to $500. And they shoot nice too.

Glock is nice for the price and reliability, but they do have a "raked" grip angle compared to other handguns such as the beretta, springfield, sig saur and smith and wesson.

I've found the grip of the glock to be very uncomfortable in my hand and switched to a m&p9 full size and it shoots great. The glock was a great shooter but it hurt my wrist to shoot. Also the m&p has adjustable backstraps for different palm swells.

All in all i believe the best gun for you would be the one your hands are comfortable with. and one that you can shoot well. Best thing to do is rent all the guns you have in mind and send some metal down range.

Glock with military/LE pricing should be just about 400.

To add to that, most women have a hard time with the grip of a 92. Seen a lot of females fail quals the first few times using the old M9.

I think I would wait on the Gen 4 Glock, I havent heard of any problems but I always like to wait at least a year after they make any major changes to make sure there arent any bugs lef to get worked out.

Gen 4's already had an ejection problem with the 115grainers that was addressed with a new inner and outer recoil spring.

Not a fan of the new design, a good gen2 or 3 would serve you well.

That's NRA's recommendation...and I'm inclined to echo it...put someone without a lot of experience in a pressure situation with a semi-auto and there's a few things that can go wrong...give that person a revolver and you've just eliminated a couple of those things...

Thats why I like the striker fired type guns like the glock. Still possible failures with the slide but much simpler than a 1911 or 92.

The NRA is a joke. So what you are going to do is give a complete novice a self defense weapon with 5 shots that is one of the most difficult to new shooters to load proficiently. Well knowing that even going by the average 3 shots, that only 20% ( 34% based on LE data- and they are trained ) of shots really hit their target under a stressful situation and 80% of handgun shooting victims survive. So now that new shooter, in the rare case they have to defend themselves against one, not to mention multiple assailants, only has five shots, is carrying a weapon that requires proficiency to reload quickly and properly and they are now required to make 60% of their shots to stop the threat so they do not have to reload? How about just equipping them with the latest and greatest semi-auto technology that is much simpler to reload, holds 3X the ammo and allows them the best chance at surviving the rarest of rare occasion they have to use it for self defense? The NRA pisses me off with their backwards 1950's train of thought and self defense training. Women can and do handle proficiently hi cap semi automatic weapons. Revolvers are reliable but when they fail, and they do it usually requires a gun bench and tools to correct the issue unlike the semi autos, which also do fail, but more than often can be corrected by a tap rack bang. Recomending a revolver to a new shooter is the worst advice ever based upon reload times, accuracy under fire, and capacity.
