Been digging trying to figure out best option to minimize rear sag without killing ride and doing full lift (which I don’t want to do) I have stock ‘21 with RSI cap on it and am picking up RTT this weekend. I’ve dropped an inch in the rear w just shell and likely another w the tent. This is before gear. I will put 32s on it for better off road

Leaning toward AAL + timbren. Any suggestions on best AAL Kit? Looking for well behaved on road but reasonably capable for moderate off road when loaded

    Many thanks

IMO you could do a deaver 1.5” - 2” AAL. Ride quality with a little weight will be good. IMO nothing wrong with single aal. You could also do a 3 leaf aal.

    Good luck.

Hi @whalebone - I have the same config (‘21 OR + RSI). I don’t have answers, but I am interested in your results so please post with pics!

@snelson3 No prob. Not much advise yet but spoke to 4w parts and they’re pushing airbags. Not too keen on that. May just pull a trigger on AAL and see how it goes. It’ll have 300ish lbs on it most of the time.

Try Aal and leave overload leaf in. IMO

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

Airbags do not help the ride with a [near] empty truck (I consider 300lbs to be practically empty.) Due to the way the airbags attach to the leaf spring they remove some flex and therefore create a stiffer ride (even when the airbag is deflated.)

They work great for the squat caused by 1k lbs in the bed or a trailer with 400lb tongue weight.

Dropped in Icon progressive AAL and kept the factory overload + new Bilstien 5100. Gained about 2" and very pleased w the ride... like a truck.

This is she. Haven’t lifted the front yet... Only going to do 1”. I have a thing for being able to fit my head between the tire and the fender.... Proper clearance in my view. The rear is perfect. Debating sliders or a new rear bumper. Then maybe a skid plate for the fuel tank and that’s it.

I'm considering this set-up for my 2015. I have a set of 2021 TRD O/R OEM leaf packs with only 1700 miles of use. If I don't sell them I'll install them on my '15 TRD O/R with either a 2" tapered block or 2" AAL. I was also looking at Sumo Springs for the very few times I will be carrying extra weight. Can you post pics of your suspension?

Do AAL's make the ride even more bouncy/stiff?

Yes and no. Consistent with heavier coils and shocks, the ride on pavement will firm up. But off-road? It’s all right.

    Nice! Thank you!

Looks like you have a good amount of space between the Sumo's & the frame. The Sumo's aren't as harsh as the Timbrens, from what I've read.

Not harsh. Daily driving they’re not working at all, as you can see. I do like the support when articulating and moderate pulling/hauling.

I added a set of Deaver AALs and Sumos to my 21 SR. The AALs eliminated the sag caused by the weight of a cap, bedslide, and work cargo. Happily there wasn’t a noticeable change in the handling. I was worried they’d make the ride too harsh. I’m not on the Sumos with my normal load. They’ll only come into play when she’s fully loaded and/or towing.

Another positive review! Any axle wrap issues before and/or after the lift?

A new leaf pack. AAL is only a bandaid. They are not for extra weight, just ride height. I know all the "experts" will disagree with me. But ive been building offroad rigs for 20 years. You need a new leaf pack built for what youre doing. I have a new pack coming from alcan. I weighed the rear axel, and then talked to them on the phone about everything else that will be on the rear end of the truck.
