I'm thinking of switching over to a LED or HID head light set. I want something that will be easy to install and not too expensive, kind of a plug in or easy solder application. Anything helps.

I'm definitely thinking LED would be a bit better, is there any brands you would recommend?

LEDs are cool, but I still prefer HIDs. They reach out farther, and they're cheaper to boot. I'd look into doing a retrofit using a kit from The Retrofit Source. In fact, I heard that they may start selling a bolt-in plug and play kit that fits our trucks.

I retrofit my Vision X offroad lights with a high/low beam setup from them and they are awesome.

I just put in Vision X H4 conversion assemblies with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs and they're bright as all get out compared to my stock set up.
