Hey there y’all! I’ve read through countless reviews and threads here on TacomaWorld, and rather than asking for everyone’s individual opinion and getting tires from unknown brands and different categories that don’t really even apply to most of us casual overlanders, I have narrowed it down to the top well known picks. Here goes:

    BFG KO2
    Toyo AT3 Open Country
    Falken Wildpeak AT3
    Cooper ST MAXX
    Nitto Ridge Grappler
    Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek
    General Grabber ATX

Which one is your favorite and why?

Hopefully this thread can end any confusion and be a place for people that are trying to do meaningful research for the future. Make sure to let me know if there are any other tires you think should be added to the list. Thanks y’all!

Will do. Currently on mobile so I think I may have to wait until I get home. Thanks for the input, I was basically looking at the same thing just 255/80/17!

I've only used 1 set out of those you've listed and I can't say it was my favorite.

3 sets of Nitto Terra Grapplers
2 sets of Hankook Dynapro AT/M
    1 set of BFG KO2

They've all done their job and taken me where I wanted to go without issue. I just go with which ever one is cheapest. Which one is "best" is totally subjective.

General Grabber ATX are my current personal favorite because that's what I'm running and they work great in nearly all conditions. Have previously run BFG K02's (not a fan) and Goodyear Duratracs (didn't fit my needs). Might be trying a set of Kenda Klever R/Ts soon.

I think it's a valiant effort to create a thread like this, but you're herding cats. This will become just another thread with countless reviews and opinions. Tires are subjective because not everyone has the same terrain conditions, and not everyone uses them the same. Good luck.

    I second this.

I’m switching to the Yokohama g003’s, not because the Grabbers lack anything but I am just going a different direction with my build. We’ll see if I regret it because the Grabbers are an amazing tire.

    I also second this.

Hey, thanks again. Forgot to add those to the list. I have heard great things about their performance but have also heard they are heavy. Is the weight an issue at all for you?

Edit: Also, I see what you mean by herding cats. Was hoping to make one of those sticky-worthy threads with just the necessary info. Thanks again!

BFG KO2 - Had these, hate 'em. Never stay balanced, noisy, grip is terrible, snow traction is miserable, and they're expensive. Wear like iron, though - so I guess there's one upside.
Toyo AT3 Open Country - Been wanting to try these, but hear mixed reviews on wet traction from people I know. Also, heavy.
Falken Wildpeak AT3 - Ran these on a previous vehicle, liked them. They do seem to wear quickly, though.

I've currently got a set of Grabber ATXs on the truck in a LT-C 265/70R17; haven't really had a chance to test them out, but I've got a weeklong trip into New England in a couple weeks where I'm sure they'll be getting a solid test. So far, I like them quite a bit. They're definitely a bit louder than the Grandtrek AT20 takeoffs I had been running, but not annoyingly so.

My personal favorites, though, are the Cooper AT3 XLTs - they're surprisingly capable despite the pedestrian tread pattern, they're quiet, wear well, and have great wet pavement traction. I wish the XLTs came in a 265/70R17.

Just overall, which tire (in your opinion) from the above list of well regarded options, performs the best in all conditions that you have thrown at it. Thanks for your input!

Not on the list, and not using either tire and I'm basing this on tread design and compound. I'll narrow it down to two tires.

Goodyear Wrangler duratracs for offroad AT.

Cooper Discoverer AT3 for onroad AT.

Out of that list I'd buy the Toyos again.

But, "best.. once and for all" made me laugh.

Didn't even know that was a thing!

If this works, please post 3 more similar threads on the topics of oil brand/type, oil filters and oil change intervals.

    Thanks.

PS. And another regarding blondes, brunettes, redheads.

PSS. It won't work. For any of the topics. :D

Haha, got fed up about all of the threads I’ve gone through and most of them were 3+ years old and were missing most of the newer tires.

Hey, just wanted to make a thread where we can see all of the “newer” opinions and get a more modern view on the subject than a bunch of cluttered 3+ year old threads. And somehow they all turn into a conversation about a tire from an unknown brand only available from a dealer halfway across the country.
