"Best Battery" for OEM Replacement?

No common sense - a exercise in stupidity - my 2000 frame rusted out - my 2008 looked different but it rusted out too - so they just keep doing the same thing expecting different results.

 

Haha I’m sure Toyota has corrected the issue.
They sell and hold value at least.
I don’t consider them long term vehicles any more.
Not in the rust belt at least.

 

Quick question: Would an X2Power Premium AGM Group 24F require a tune for a 3rd gen like the Group 31s do? Looking at this one to replace the dying OEM: X2Power Premium AGM 840CCA BCI Group 24F

 

It would. Agms require higher charging voltages than floodeds. 2nd gens you can fool the alt s circuit to get more voltage. But the 3rd gens it's controlled by the ecu. Can you run it without it? Yeah, but what @crashnburn80 talked about, you won't be charging it enough to keep it healthy. So, you will kill the battery faster.

More stupid questions, if I am running the cascadia 4x4 solar panels on my truck, is that enough to keep the AGM topped off without doing an ECU tune or using a trickle charger? Also, how much battery degradation would occur if I just drop a 24f in there and use it as is? Are we talking cutting the lifespan in half, or 3/4?

 

Contributing to this thread as I just replaced the Battery in my truck for the first time since purchasing it in May 2021.

Started looking into batteries when my truck was struggling to start on a few cold mornings recently.

Went with an Interstate MTP27F as I have the tow package and the battery that I was removing was a 27F.

The most time consuming part of the replacement was getting all the battery corrosion off of the metal hold-down bracket. It required some soaking in a "warm water baking soda solution" and some scraping but I eventually got it all off.

First couple start-ups since the replacement have been quick and smooth with fewer turnovers than with the old burnt out battery.

 

I don’t know about the x2 battery but I can tell you that I just replaced my 10 year and 1 month old Die Hard platinum 24f AGM. Never used a voltage booster and no wall charger. And yes, it lasted that long. The single digit temps this past week were low enough to drain it to the point of not having enough juice to start but still had lights etc. oh and that was after sitting for 12 days while I was out of the country. Jumper pack on it and it fired right up. But I knew it was probably on its last leg anyway so I replaced.

point being, drop the 24f in there and call it a day.
