Optima batteries fail fast from what I have heard on forums for the past 10+ years
Guy at work has seen many fail on diesels

I have never had a battery go bad before warranty. It also doesn't get that hot here.

My duralast gold is 10 years old, but the voltage is starting to drop. I don't think it will make it through the winter, but I thought the same thing last fall.

When I bought my OEM replacement from the dealer, I refused to pay what they wanted for install. So I pulled up, popped my hood, removed my battery and brought it in. Grabbed the new one and replaced it in their parking lot. Got a few looks, but whatever....

I did that at autozone last year. It was nice to do it there too. The high raised side walk there was a nice platform to work on with my 35s and 4 in lift to replace both 27F batteries. I ignored the sign that said no working on vehicles. Its not like it was going to start again to get home anyways.

My oem battery is 6 yrs. old. Still doing fine. Where does Toyota get their battires from? I’d be hard pressed to buy something different.

Well that changes things. Deka is the popular brand around here. I’ve used Deka in motorcycles and lawn mowers, but not in a truck. Probably try that or a Northstar.

I've been researching batteries for years waiting for mine to die, and the Walmart Everstart Maxx seems like the best deal. People seem to get the same amount of service out of them as they do with batteries that cost 30-100 dollars more. They also have a 3 year free replacement warranty.

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
OEM was Panasonic on my 07 4runner, not sure if that was true for these trucks in 05 originally. Lasted 9 years though. And I never did a thing to it.

I’ve had great success with Duralast batteries from auto zone. Have decent warranty and usually have one of the higher rated amps.

The low bidder. Just like their Toyota branded oil, filters and other 'normal' consumables.

Not that the low bidder is always a bad thing, assuming they were bidding on good specs and have a good quality product.

That's not exactly how Toyota does business. A slightly higher cost will be accepted if the long term business partner provides good quality.

Do you know what size battery it is? Is the battery brand on it? 6 years is a pretty long life.

No battery brand on it. It’s a 27F. An earlier post said they were made by Panasonic. I didn’t know they made vehicle batteries, but it sure has been a good one. I do agree that the most important thing is to buy a battery with a good warranty. My experience with batteries has been all over the chart. I had a diehard battery in my previous truck and it never gave me any trouble. I’ve had zero luck with Duralast golds, but a guy in a previous post had one for 10 years. That’s why the warranty is so important.
