Ended up picking the Costco battery but had to go 15 miles farther then the closest Costco because apparently they don't stock very much of these batteries. Checked autozone but the price was 160 for the Duralast Gold which had a similar warranty to the Costco battery that was 90!

Can't go wrong with a long warranty! Make sure you test it around 34 months (if it lasts that long).

Need to replace my battery. Looking an Interstate from Costco for $90. Interstate's web site says $132 at other dealers. Are these the same batteries, or does Costco get some cut-rate version?

I checked Walmart, their web site says they have Group 27, but not the 27F. I've heard the cables will not reach on at 27, is that correct?

Compare the specs of the battery (Amps, CCA, etc); that's the only way to know if you're getting the same thing. 27 is a standard-pole battery, 27F is reversed. Your cables will (likely) not reach with a standard 27- not worth the risk.

I know how to compare the specs. The specs don't really tell you much about durability.

Durability is going to be all in the manufacturing process, the lead plate thickness, and even the build date/shelf life of the battery. If you're looking for unwavering performance, you have to go to AGM.

Hence my question on whether the Costo version of the Interstate 27F battery is the same as what is carried at other Interstate dealers.

I agree AGMs are great batteries. I have an Optima Yellow Top in my tractor, and it has been working well for several
years now. However, prices have doubled since I bought it, and I've heard bad things about Optima's quality starting at the time they moved production to Mexico. I don't know if they have resolved the issues yet. (I do like the fact that Optima recommends the same charging and float voltages for their AGM batteries as are standard for flooded lead-acid batteries. That's not true of most AGM batteries, so their life is shortened slightly if you don't use an AGM-specific charger.)

Understood. Unfortunately, I can't say for certain, but I'd say it's unlikely they're the same product. However, with the warranty from Costco you may want to take that risk.

I gave up on Costco's cheap 24F batteries - used in an '06 Avalon. Went thru 3 of them in about 2 yrs. time approx. There is a reason why they cost $90. Thank God they don't hassle you about a return like my local Auto Zone does. Switched to Walmart's Maxx whatever battery. Problem solved.
Questions asked above about the Costco Interstate being the same as what you get at an Interstate dealer. I am not able to answer that question, but will say...I doubt it.

The Autozone Gold is a pretty decent AGM. Is the Costco AGM with the same specs?

I’ve always had good luck with the Napa batteries, and I live to where it drops to -40C in the winter

This says a lot. Cold is what kills batteries but they die in the heat. Weird, I know.
Neat fact, -40 degrees Celsius is also -40 degrees Fahrenheit!!!

Unfortunately, I want a 27F, and Walmart does not carry that type.

To clarify: Batteries degrade due to heat, not only that coming off your engine, but also ambient temps... the symptoms of a dead/depleted battery only become visible in winter when full power is needed.
Check your batteries in fall, people. It'll save you the headache in the winter.

You may be correct. I was going off this phrase:
“Then when winter comes, “Temps don’t have to fall far to make starting a car too hard for a heat-weakened battery. Cold kills car batteries. And heat is its accomplice,” adds Interstate.”

ever wonder why it mounted in the front?
    to keep cool in summer
exhaust, radiator, engine, AC can keep temps up high in the engine compartment

On most trucks, a finned trans pan wont do much for cooling since the air going to it is already hot.
Even the rear diff don't benefit much from cooling fins because of the engine heat but they look cool like a jeweled butt plug

My dealer in Virginia Beach usually has a sale on the OEM 27F battery for $90 installed.
84 months warranty and 24 months roadservice for <$100.

Then get a 24f, problem solved. Walmart should stock those.

I have a Wal Mart battery because that's where I was when it died. Came out after shopping and truck wouldn't start. Thankfully, I had a few tools under the back seat.
20 minutes later, I was rolling back down the road with a new battery. Thank God it decided to die where it did.
I didn't even get a warning 'slow start', just BAM, nothing.
