Yes, but daisy chain them properly. + to +, - to -, but the battery connected to the alt/starter is not grounded to the car - the other battery is.
    See 2nd diagram: http://caravanchronicles.com/guides/how-to-connect-two-batteries-in-parallel/

Same here, but only -17F. I'm just going with another OEM in the fall. I figure if the original lasted 5 years....that's good enough for me.

The Battery is mostly just used for starting. The power output capability of the alternator is what keeps all the extra lights/toys/things
going once the Engine starts, and it charges the battery of course everybody knows that. I believe the higher the CCA Amps you get on a battery the better. I'm on my fifth year using my current battery that has the capability of 750CCA.

Frankly Optima red tops suck balls. Yellow top gives okay service but red tops are crap. I went through two of them in under 2 years.

Old thread is old but need to revive.

Current stock Tacoma battery has a dead cell and won't hold a charge and won't start the truck.

No idea on what to get honestly. Need something that will hold up in Texas heat, be used as the starting battery, and be able to run my lights and so forth and possibly an ARB fridge in the future.

Was looking at Exide and Odyssey...
    Exide - http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/exide-edge-agm-flat-plate-dual-purpose-marine-battery

    Obyssey - http://shop.odysseybattery.com/p/34r-790

@Crom you said to get one from Walmart for the starting battery, but since I won't be doing a dual battery setup... is that something to do with all Aux lighting and so forth that I also run?

I have also been thinking about doing a Group31 battery, but not sure what to do on that as well.

The best battery for high underhood temperatures is a non-sealed wet battery especially if the OEM battery was wet because you can replace the lost water and the charging system will properly charge it. If you want to use a an AGM battery, then relocate it away from the high underhood temperatures. If you want to use a single battery, use a wet non-sealed deep cycle battery that has enough performance (CCA) to start your engine in the coldest temperature you will driving in. Heat kills batteries and cold reduces performance and capacity. An isolated dual battery (a starting and a deep cycle battery) system will insure that you can restart your engine.

See Section 7 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org for more information.

I'm impressed with everything you've got going on there

I've got my first red top going in my truck right now. Only time will tell if it's better or worse than the 2-3 year batteries I've been using.

I would love to do a dual battery setup, just not at this time, I did check my stock oem battery and it was low on water so filled it back up and let the truck run for a bit after jumping it. Will see if that fixes the issues of it not working. I may just get an OEM battery as the current battery is still under its 84 month warranty... would be prorated but would be cheaper than anything else.

Would love to have something better, but price is what kills it. Just want to make sure what I get will be fine with the aux lights and possibly a future ARB fridge.

Out of my price range honestly on that.
