    Hello all

I was doing some research on a possibly dual battery upgrade. Not positive just toying around.

On one of the sites the manufacture mentioned that they do not sell or recommend Optima batteries and they only sell Odyssey batteries.

Now I do not know a lot about batteries and have never herd of Odyssey.

Let me know what you think.

    Thank you

So, picked one up, are you using the side terminals? The internet tells me it's 3/8? coarse thread, but an actual "battery bolt" is suggested due to the soft metal.

I'm using the side terminals for my winch on the starting battery. I'm pretty that the side terminal bolts are a specific thread and pitch for that application only .

Cool, I was planning for the winch there as well. I’ll head down to the parts store and see what I can come up with, thanks.

The soft metal is lead or a lead alloy. The other reason is a mismatch of metals will corrode.

A deep cycle battery is better suited to winching applications than a starting battery. If a deep cycle battery is used for starting an engine, insure that it will produce the recommended vehicle manufacturer's CCA requirements.

So, mine shit the bed in less than a year, it stopped holding a charge for more than a few days. Took it out for warranty and it was swollen, dude at Sams tried to convince me it was a marine and not intended for this application. Got the same one but may take it back and get the starting one, which unfortunately doesn’t have the side terminals so I’ll have to do a bunch of rewiring.

I too bought the northstar but must have got an old or possibly defective one because it started to have issues with holding a charge after 2 months. After researching on TW and needing a replacement quickly I went back to the yellow top optima. Really bummed about it but couldn't afford another. Then as if it were meant to be I was given another yellow top, same group size and only a few months difference in manufacturer's date. So I ran the lines and relays and and whatnot so now I have dual battery setup. My last yellow top gave me about 8 years so...fingers crossed.

A best battery thread started in 2009 from NJ?

See the Odyssey batteries listed down below for $300. Buy one of them.

Somebody 10+ years ago told me that they last for 15 years.

What size did you go with? My battery died tonight and am thinking about getting a Duralast Gold tomorrow as a replacement.
