Best bolt action rifle?

I own the same rifle, an excellent caliber for all things hoofed up to caribu. Excellent for distance shooting and light recoil, lighter then a 308.

The Rem 700 platform in 308 is tried and true, but you may find it less then comfortable shooting all day at the range. Adding weight through the stock and the barrel will tame this, if it is an issue for you.

Any bolt action by Savage at your price point is a winner. They produce for the money the most accurate out of the box rifles today.

But if I am shooting all day long, and having fun it is because I am behind my Ruger 556, AR-15 (223), or my Savage Model: 16/116 FCSS chambered in 22-250. I love my Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70, but you won't shoot that all day with out a stiff drink.

As for scopes you get what you pay for and I tend to stay in the $400 + range, which is still solid entry lvl until you break $1000 +, but optics are everything.

That said I have also shot, hunted, and abused a Simmons for years and it is an excellent scope for the money.

And don't forget, GET OFF THE BENCH and shoot!

Tactical has a heavy barrel, not good for hunting (synthetic stock to answer you question).

If you are using for hunting, I would say a Rem 700 CDL....270 is a great round for hunting, otherwise 308 is a wonderful round as well. My long range precision bench rest is 308, but my main hunting rifle (for most north american game) is a CDL 270.

Listen to this guy. Remington 700's are great dependable guns. I also like the 7mm shoots very flat not too hard on the shoulder. The size depends on you and what you want it for

I have that same scope mounted on my AR-15 platform, it is a great scope.

Yes, that is a nice rifle, going to be in the prone a lot ;D.

the model 700 is a great rifle, especially with the BDL stock, very comfortable stock
