On a practical note, I came here to see if I could functionally get away with choosing the Ranch Hand Legend Brush guard over the ARB bumper, both for cost savings and weight savings since I don't plan on upgrading from stock suspension.

Despite being a brush guard, the Ranch hand seems to get mixed reviews on deer strikes. Some people laud it, others (including many on Tacoma World) say Brush guards are dammage multipliers, stay far away.

Overall, it really seems like nobody has any real experience with the Ranch Hand. They seem just to throw it in to the Brush Guard group. It does, however, attach to the frame unlike other guards.

Does anyone have experience with the Rancher in deer strikes? Is it worth a shot?

Working backwards is probably the appropriate way to answer your question @Shortbus47XYY - what are you worried about having a bumper capable of overcoming - literally running into a cow?

Certainly not. If it could take a deer and worst I'd have to do is replace the brush guard that would be great. Better yet, if it could whack a white tail and walk away with a bumped up brush guard ready for round two that would be exceptional. That's all I'd hope for. No, cows are not frequent lol. Deer are an issue where I live.

Obviously even deer strikes will have a big range of damage based on the specifics, but check this ARB bumper from hitting a deer:

I heavily assume under the same circumstances anything less would have not protected the truck and kept it in such clean condition.

I think that's their full bumper though, bit just the guard. Their full bumper for the 3rd Gen taco is almost as expensive and even heavier than the ARB so, at that point...
